  1. Chapter Thirteen

His hand fit perfectly on mine as he dragged me towards the forest. It's already been three days since we came back; and we had to make up for school. But it was already Friday night.

Rumours were floating around that we were in a honeymoon. I cringed at that thought. We had an excuse— well, I do. I told them I had an emergency at my old home; whereas Michael never told the school anything, but his mother covered up for him.

"Michael, where are we going?" I asked, as I tried not to step on my foot.

I remembered more about my memories as we both walked on the streets. The memories were coming to me like flashes.

"I think you're ready to know the truth," Michael said, smiling sadly at me. I've been bugging him about telling me what really happened with Violet; but he would refuse, saying it wasn't time yet.

He was obviously getting ready of my reaction— but could it be so bad for him to freak out practically every time I say her name?

He dragged me to the centre of the forest, in an open field, but there was a Gothic looking mansion in the middle of the field, and I knew where we were. Violet's house.

But he didn't drag me there, he dragged me further from the house.

"Michael! Are the Aveira's still there?" I asked, quickening my pace.

"Yes," he shortly answered. I just nodded and kept up with him.

Michael stopped in a halt as we reached another open field, but it wasn't as big as the Aveira's lot. I felt shivers run down my spine, as I tried to take in the environment.

It was eerie. Dark, and full of negative energy. There was light, yes; but it looked dull. The trees were huge, and the ground was moist. I looked at Michael in fear and he nodded at me, pointing at an abandoned one-storey house.

"I'll be here for you, I promise," he whispered, holding my hand tightly.

As I took a step forward to the house, Michael let go of my hand. My eyes met his, and he urged me to go on... so I did.

Every step made me feel restricted. Every step made me feel weak. Every step made me feel controlled.

The walls had scratch marks everywhere, and the wood railings were on the ground, dead.

Entering from the archway— since there was no door— I tried to go back. I was afraid, honestly... but I couldn't turn away.

I took a step forward, until darkness was all I saw, and a little light from the holes of the roof top.

It was silent, but my footsteps walked on glasses. As I got farther from the entrance, I began hearing cries.

Cries of pain, and cries of joy and utter success.

And then the light shone upon me. It wasn't like what you see in the movies where it's all godlike. It was like a flash bomb.

And then the memories started coming into my mind as I saw two ropes hanging on the ceiling of the thrashed living room.

Walking towards the Violet and my secret place, she held my hand tightly and grinned at me.

"Mary, we're best friends forever right?" She asked innocently, a smile spread on her pale face.

I nodded enthusiastically and tightened my grip on her hands. "Best friends forever!" I announced.

    "Even if we die?"

I giggled, "Yeah! Even in the next life."

"I know how to strengthen our bond, Mary," she said kindly, no mischievousness in her voice. But if only I knew what she was going to do, I wouldn't have agreed. She was an evil being.

"Really? Let's do it then, if that means being with you in the future." I didn't know what I was saying, I didn't know what she had in mind. I was oblivious, and blind. I was controlled by the kindness and sincerity she showed in the surface, but I never bothered to look further into that fake genuine smile.

    "Great," she laughed softly.

We entered the house that her parents built for her as a secret place. She was so lucky.

We went directly to the living room, where it was all grey, White, red, and black; no such colours as pink, blue, and every other colour. It scared me at first, but I got used to it.

I sat down on the couch as she went to the kitchen to get something.

I hummed to myself, excited of what Violet was going to show me. I felt my heart flutter by the fact that I would have a best friend forever.

I never had a single girl friend, because they were afraid of my last name, and so with Mikey. I frowned.

The de Sancti's reputation was known throughout the whole town— we were known for being helpful, and for leading the town to a place where everyone would love to live in.

We were respected— but also feared.

Violet came back with a cute smile on her face as she held a tray on her hands. It was covered in a black cloth.

She placed it in the coffee table as she sat down beside me.

She opened it and I felt blood draining down my body.

"V-Violet?" I stuttered, nervous of what she was thinking.

"Don't be afraid, Mary. It's just a harmless blade, that's all." her voice was calm and convincing, and I couldn't believe I fell for that.

    "Oh... Okay." I answered hesitantly.

I gulped as she grabbed the hold of the knife. It was huge and shiny.

"It's not gonna hurt, Mary. It'll be like an ant bite though." She ran her fingers down the blade as she smiled longingly at it. She looked at it like it was her baby, her precious thing.

I nodded, still nervous about what she was going to do with the knife.

She grabbed my wrist by force and showed me a sweet smile. It was amazing how she could make me so calm with just her smile, but scary too.

I flinched and then she frowned, "It's okay, Mary... I'm going to do it to myself too."

    I nodded closing my eyes.

I could feel the blade's coldness on my skin. I could feel it open my flesh as blood started to ooze out. I could feel my tears silently streaming down my cheeks; and I was holding myself not to scream from the pain.

I opened my eyes, only to see Violet slash her wrist like it was nothing, and then she grabbed my wrist again, and rubbed our wounds together. I howled in pain, as she just continued letting our bloods mix.

I felt nauseous... I felt sick.

"Violet, stop!" I tried to let go from her grip but it was no use; she had a better control over me.

"Now... we're always going to be together forever, Mary." It was the first time she showed me her wicked side. It was the first time I saw how her smile really is. Sinister.

"No, I don't want to go with you!" I screamed from the top of my lungs, as Violet dragged me towards our secret place.

It's been three weeks since I ran away from Violet, but no matter what, she would always find me. The past weeks, I avoided her... But today was an exception, she got me.

"Stop struggling, Mary. You said you'd be with me forever," she hissed, as fake tears came out of her eyes.

I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't affected by it; and I really was. She held me much mor tightly, make me flinch. It was going to bruise, I was sure about that.

As she dragged me into living room, I felt much more afraid when she showed me the knife.

Two ropes were hanging on the ceiling, as two chairs stood below it.

"This will complete the bond, Mary. By killing ourselves together." Her tone was completely off the kind list. It was dark, and menacing.

"N-no, Violet. Please let me go..." I begged her, trying to get away. But she had this kind of hold on me that I don't understand. It was like she had an invisible cuff, and she locked it on my wrists. Could it be what she did before?

She laughed humourlessly as she made me stand on the chair. Every fibre of my being was in danger, and I couldn't move.

My life was on the line, and there was nothing else I could do than cry and beg her to not do it.

She tied the rope on my neck, and I was stiff as a pole. I was crying a river, and all she did was laugh.

She then tied herself and smiled nicely at me. "Forever, right Mary?"

    "N-no..." I croaked.

Her face grew furious. "You liar!" She cried, and then she kicked me on my side, causing me to fall— and she jumped— but I was lucky enough to gain my senses back. The rope was tightly on my neck, and I placed both of my hands on it, in order to not choke me fully; as I fell on the floor from struggling too much, Violet was looking at me with venom in her eyes.

"Curse you, Mary... Curse you." She screamed in A broken voice— and then... she died.

Eyes closed, and our necks bleeding.

I looked at her one last time before I finally gave out.

    The darkness swallowed me.

I gasped for air as I started running backward the house.

I had to get out of there... I had to.

As I almost got out of the living room, the door slammed close and then everything went black.

And the last thing I could hear was...

    You're going to die.
