  2. Chapter Six — Part Two

"Oi, Michael! Where have you been this weekend? We missed you at the party," Joshua called out as I got out of my car.

I smiled at him and said, "Nowhere. Just went to the park, and I was hanging out with my old man."

"The park? Alone?" He asked curiously, as we made our way inside the school.

I nodded at him, lying. If I told him about Mary, he was going to throw a fit. Well, not literally. He'll be bashing her though. I've heard them talking about her like she's a plague, and a disgusting human— according to them, she isn't human. She's a monster.

I cringed. How could someone be so judgemental? They don't even know her personally.

I sighed at my thoughts, and headed towards the locker. I saw Mary as her usual self- but this time she was more pale. Like life was going to take her soon.

I felt a wave of worry hit me. My eye brows furrowed, and I had the need to go near her, but what would Joshua say?

What would all of them think? Would they stop being friends with me just because I feel a certain pull with Mary? Would they hate me for being friends with her?

I thought hard for a second and then I came into a conclusion: Fuck it, who cares what they think?

"Hey Josh, I'll catch up with you later, alright?" I told him before I scurried off finding Mary.

As I turned into the hallway, I saw her walking slowly to the library. She was dragging her feet, and her hair was all over her face. She looked thinner somehow.

I quickly caught up to her and made sure to not startle her. I walked beside her, and she already felt the presence. She looked at me with fear in her eyes that made my heart clench tightly.

My brows furrowed, "Are you okay, Mary?" I asked worriedly as she stopped dead on her tracks.

Her mouth opened slightly, but then she closed it again. She looked like she was hyperventilating, and her eyes were rolling left to right; like there was someone watching her, and she was trying to find out who it was.

"Mary?" I whispered and touched her shoulder.

She flinched and glared at me. She gasped silently, and dropped her books. She wasn't looking at me, she was looking what was behind me. I turned around and saw nothing, but I felt a cold air creep up on my skin.

I looked back at her and found her on the floor, jaw hung open, wanting to scream; there were tears silently streaming down her lifeless face. And she was covering her ears tightly, like she was blocking out unwanted sounds...

    But that's the thing...

It was dead silent in the hallway.

It was only Mary and me, and a cold presence, which made me shudder in fear, and curiosity.

    — Mary's POV —

    It was here...

    It was following me...

And there's nothing I could do. It would always come after me no matter where I go; I've tried so hard to get rid of it, but it won't go away.

For the first time, I thought it was gone, but not until yesterday... Not until the day after I saw Michael in the park.

The demons of my past were back...

And the sad and fearful thing about it?

I had no idea what my past was like. There was something missing, and there was something making me forget all of it.

I was trying hard to think after my first encounter with it, but something was blocking me from my memories, and it was not pleasant.

Massive headaches were numbing. It felt like paralysation. It felt like no more hope. I just wanted to pull out all of my hair that time.

I felt warm hands shaking my shoulder. I was still on my knees, covering my ears, blocking the shrills of a high-pitched laugh. Tears were uncontrollably streaming down my face, and I felt my body freeze from the cold wind.

I felt something touch every part of my body, but it wasn't Michael, it was the same unknown cold presence— also leaving bruises in some part, unknowingly.

I gasped for air as I felt a sharp pain on my stomach, like I was being kneed on. I arched my back, and Michael supported me to stand. I don't even know why he's helping me, but he needs to just... stop.

"L-let me go," I growled softly, pushing myself away from him.

"Stop it, Mary. Let me help you just once! You're hurt for goodness' sake!" He yelled in disbelief.

I shoved him away weakly, but his hand were tightly gripped on my shloulder. "I'm fine!" I snapped. "So... Stay the fuck away from me," I glared hatefully at him from being touched. When will he take a freaking hint?! I HATE BEING TOUCHED!

He gasped in surprise but he slammed me harshly on the lockers. I groaned in pain, and looked into his regretting eyes. "Damn it, you make this so hard for me! I'm sorry, okay? I just want to be your friend! Is that a sin?"

I smirked, "No, it isn't. You want to be my friend?" I said amusingly. "Then... for the last time, stay away from me."

I thought he would force me again, and talk back. I thought he would just leave and stay away from me. I thought he'd be disgusted by me by now. I thought he'd slam my face in. I thought he'd call me a freak. I thought everything except for the fact that...

He pressed his lips against mine.

    And all hell broke lose.

  13. Chapter Seven

    ㅡ Michael's POV ㅡ

My eyes snapped open as I heard a bloodcurdling scream. I looked around me and saw Mary on her knees, holding her mother in her arms, who is covered in blood. Her face was pale, her skin were filled with cuts, and I could see pieces of her body spread out on the other side, as well as Mary's father. I felt sick to the stomach.

The police were trying to get her away from the body, but she would just scream and throw a fit. I tried touching her, but it was like I was in a dream.

"No! Mum, dad— please wake up!" Her agony was unbearable; I felt the need to protect her.

I watched as the officer pulled her away but I was transported in another dimension, for all I think.

It was dark, and I was in an alleyway; in front of me was probably Mary's old house. She looked slightly happy, and she was with a girl probably older than her by a year or two.

She was holding Mary's hand comfortably, and wiping tears from her eyes.

I was confused. Why the hell am I here?

I went near them, already aware that no one could see me.

"Stop blaming yourself, Mary! If you came to save them, you would've died too— and I don't want to lose my only sister..." Mary's sister whimpered, as she enveloped her in a tight embrace.

"I hate myself... It should have been me!" She yelled, shoving her sister away from her.

And the next thing I knew, there was a van that stopped in front of them and they were kidnapped.

I felt my chest tighten, and I was now in an abandoned warehouse.

It was cold, lifeless, and it wreaked of alcohol.

And then I saw two still bodies on the cold ceramic floor. I looked over at Mary who had a huge bruise on her right cheek, and her sister looked like she was beaten up a hundred times more.

Tears were beginning to spill from my eyes, but I let out a horrified scream when I saw Mary's sister being sexually abused, while they forced Mary to watch her.

"Stop it! Stop! Stop hurting her! Please... no..." Mary looked like she was already giving up, and it hurt me more when tears started to stream down her cheek. Her eyes filled with sorrow, and agony.

How I wished I was there to save her from insanity.

"Disgusting humans." I thought as I cringed when a man held out a paddle. I wanted to shut my eyes, but it wouldn't let me.

"Take this, bitch!" The man laughed as he hit Mary's sister on the bottom many times.

"Stop!" Mary and I screamed together. It was too much! How could someone do that?!

And then there was a knife... the same knife that was used to kill Mary's parents.

There were three men helping to kill Mary's sister. They stabbed her so many times that her face was already unrecognisable.

Mary's sister didn't say anything. She was numb, she was already dead inside. There was no more fighting it.

And that's what happened. Mary's sister died in front of her, and she couldn't do anything so save her.

I pinched the bridge of my nose, and let out a deep breath. My heart was tightening, my guts were wanting to be spilled. So much bloodshed... so much traumatic experience.

I opened my eyes and found myself in front of an ice cream parlour; and there I saw Mary walking out with a guy who was obviously comforting her.

But then it all happened in a flash. A thief stood in front of them, threatening them to give them all their possession, and they did. But that didn't stop the thief to shoot, and it was towards Mary.

"Mary!" The boy said as he reached out to her to get away. And that he succeeded, only for him to earn a bullet on his shoulder blade. Mary screamed his name over and over again.

"Please! Don't!" Mary pleaded the thief, but he smirked and then shoot the boy again; that time... It was on the heart and on the head. He also shot Mary on the shoulder blade, causing her to be covered by the darkness.

And so, she saw her best friend die in front of her.

My tears were running wildly. How could someone do that? What have Mary done to receive that kind of punishment?

I rubbed my eyes, also wiping away the tears that have spilled.

I was in the back of the car, and there were a couple on the front seat, looking happy as ever.

It was Mary and her boyfriend.

But all happened so fast again. Her boyfriend stepped on the break and steered the wheel as fast as he could, but it was too late. Mary's eyes widened, as she saw her boyfriend dead, the shattered window glass everywhere on his face.

    She screamed, and screamed.

She didn't understand. The truck hit the side of the car, but why was she only injured deeply, but not dead?

Tears came running down her face, mixing with blood. She looked so broken, and hopeless.

And what I noticed before the accident was...

A young girl, with straight jet black hair standing in front of the road, with eyes so red. She was smirking evilly, and that was it. She disappeared when there was a collision.

I heard footsteps descending down my stairs; and so I found myself in a house. And I found myself watching Mary, who just saw her aunt die in front of her.

And then I noticed something too... The same girl from the accident that cost Mary's boyfriend's death.

And she stared at me with a wide sinister smile.

"Pitiful isn't it, Michael?" She said in a callous sweet voice.

Her voice sent shivers down my spine, and I looked at her in fear. She snickered and said, "Serves her right!" And then she disappeared into thin air.

And for the last time, I watched Mary crying with blood on her cheeks.

    She lost it...

    She died too...

I gasped in shock, as I felt my heart beat rapidly. I pulled away from the kiss an found myself staring at a crying Mary.

"No... No... Why did you do that?!" she screamed at me, causing me to flinch.

"You shouldn't have! No! She's going to come and get you, Michael... She's going to kill us both."

"Mary, who is she?" I asked sternly. "Who is she, Mary?! I will help you!"

"You can't help me... No one can help me... She's going to kill us. Violet is back... She's going to kill me." Mary was shaking like crazy, her eyes were turning a dark black. She looked like she want herself.

"She hates me. Violet hates me for what I've done. She's going to kill me... She's going to kill us. And it will be... A... Bloody... Death..."

And then Mary passed out, leaving me too overwhelmed of what she was saying.

    Who is Violet?

What happened to Mary in the past?

    What should I do?
