It was much too cold for December. The young fifth year girl was bundled up head to toe to the point where she felt too stiff to move. But even so, she needed to get to Hogsmeade to meet up with her two best friends.

"Damn you, Harry," she muttered under her breath as she walked towards the village. She felt her fingers freeze up beneath her mittens; her face frostbitten already. What was so important that he had to see both her and Ronald today?

She arrived at the small village a few minutes later and soon found herself inside the familiar pub. It was nice and warm inside and when she found her two friends she went over and unbundled herself.

"You showed up a little late Hermione," Harry said with a smile. "Aren't you the one who is always punctual?"

She frowned at the dark haired boy. "It took some time to get dressed to go out in this weather. What are you thinking? What's so important that you had to call Ron and I out today?"

    "Nothing."

She felt a sudden urge to stun or hex him. "What do you mean by nothing?! You made me come all the way here for nothing? Are you crazy? It's so cold..."

"Sorry... It's just with all this DA stuff that has been going on, we haven't had much time to ourselves as friends."

"I agree." Finally the red headed boy spoke up. He looked at the shivering girl. "I agree with Harry on this one Hermione. We haven't really been together as friends for quite some time."

Hermione sighed and took a seat next to Harry. "Alright. I understand... but next time, please don't make your call sound so urgent."

Harry laughed. "Understood. And I won't call you out on such a cold day either."

Hermione smiled. "Good. I hate the cold."

"We've noticed," said Ron and the three of them laughed.

"Look who's here. It's Potter, Weasley and the little mudblood."

The three of them turned to see Draco Malfoy with his two friends, Crabbe and Goyle. He smirked at Hermione as she glared at him.

"You have a problem, mudblood?" he asked.

She looked back at the table without replying. She had nothing to say, especially nothing that wouldn't entice him further. She bit her lip to keep herself from crying because she knew that if she shed even one tear, he would continue to put her down."

"That's enough Malfoy," said Harry sternly.

    "Or what, Potter?"

    Harry whipped out his wand.

Draco only laughed at the threat. "Not much of a man are you, Potter? What? Are you going to put a curse on me?"

"Leave him alone," said Ron. "Leave both of them alone."

Draco burst out laughing. "And what are you going to so Weasley? You can't do anything. You're only an embarrassment to the wizarding world."

Hermione felt something inside her crack and she shot up from the table and faced Draco. "Leave."

He looked her over and smirked. "What if I don't?"

"You'll regret it. Remember what happened in third year?"

"What? No," he said and he looked back at his friends an laughed. "Anyways. What's a filthy mudblood like you going to do?"

Hermione balled up her hand into a fist and she slammed it against Draco's face and sent him flying backwards.

"What the-" he started as he lifted a hand to his face. He saw the tears welling up in her eye. Perhaps it was because of what she had done but he realized that it was time for him to stop. He stood up, and without making contact to any of the trio he left, his two friends trailing behind him.

"Good job Hermione!" Said Ron and he jumped up alongside her.

    "Ron..." said Harry quietly.

    "What?"

Harry nodded his head towards Hermione and Ron suddenly became quiet. He could see the tears rolling down her cheeks.

"Hey Hermione... Don't listen to him. You're better than that," he said.

"Thanks Ron..." she said softly. In all honesty she didn't feel it. She felt like an outsider amongst many of her friends. None of her friends were like her. She knew of people in the school that were like her. But amongst her group of friends she was the only one who did not have magical parents. She disliked that fact very much.
