As some of you may know, I live and breathe sports, especially football, and furthermore especially college football lol.. Last summer I posted my top 5 teams for the preseason, and other than including USC in there, I did very strongly, so I figured I would do the same for this years preseason.. Feel free to voice your comments/concerns cuz I love talkin football! Here we go: 1. Alabama - No matter how many stars are lost to the NFL every year, Nick Saban continues to cycle through top notch recruiting classes and the Tide are in good position to go for 3 straight National Championships. You never have to worry about the defense disappointing, but sometimes the offense can be iffy. The past couple years though, I feel as if the Alabama offense has gotten stronger, and this year, both AJ McCarron and TJ Yeldon are both returning as the highlights of the offense that I can see being even better than last year. There's no excuse to put anybody else in the #1 spot right now. 2. Oregon - I viewed Oregon as the second best team in the country last year throughout the entire season and they really only have 3 major losses from a season ago, that being RB Kenjon Barner, DE Dion Jordan, and of course Chip Kelly. With DeAnthony Thomas, Byron Marshall, and Thomas Tyner all fantastic options at RB, the loss of Barner wont be a big blow on the offensive side which is already stacked with Marcus Mariota, Josh Huff, and Bralon Addison. Personally I don't think Mark Helfrich will be that big of a drop off from Chip Kelly as coach as he knows the offensive scheme like the back of his hand, and while the Ducks are always near the top of the list for takeaways, the offense is what makes this team go, and I don't see them skipping a beat. 3. Ohio St. - No team is ever a one player team, but this is as close as it gets. Braxton Miller is my unanimous choice to win the Heisman this year, and let's be honest- without him, the Buckeyes would struggle to be a top 20 team. I don't see them going undefeated again, but with all the returning athletes on offense surrounding Miller, and they're defense which is usually top notch, they have just as good of a chance as anyone to make the championship game. 4. Stanford - Many people say that the root to success in college football is being able to run the ball, and being able to stop the run. Stanford has a top 5 run defense in the country with many defensive impact players returning. With Stepfan Taylor in the NFL now, the Cardinal now have to replace the 3 time 1000 yard rusher with Anthony Wilkerson and Tyler Gaffney, and I doubt it will be a weak rushing attack considering how much depth there is. Not only do they have the ground game working for them on both sides of the ball, but one of the most promising NFL prospects at QB in Kevin Hogan. 5. Florida - After a humiliating loss to Louisville to end the season, the Gators will be extremely motivated to recapture their spot as a top tier team in the eyes of fans. Much like Alabama, defense is never a concern here as year in and year out they sport a top 5 all around defensive unit. The bigger question mark here is the offense. Jeff Driskel is still developing as a passer, but the sky is the limit for him. Mike Gillislee will be missed, but they have many young and electric athletes filling in on offense including several freshmen wide receivers. The Gators will finish a top 10 team for sure, but the play of Driskel is what will make or break their chances of a national championship appearance. Hope you guys enjoyed reading this, or at least learned something here lol. As I said before, feel free to voice your own opinion - nothing gets me more fired up than a nice college football talk!
LSU may be a contender, but that offense is straight ugly and seems to progressively get worse each year. They are a top 10 team in my opinion, and as usual with finish top 3 in SEC, but they have a little work to do to make top 5 I think
Why are there so many gay moves in football like when the guy get patted on the rump to hike the ball? Aren't most football players cripples by age 40? Why are American downs so short and your field so small? Why is the ball such a weird shape ? Is the ball really pig skin?
I'd put Louisville in at #5 we have no real major losses other than Adrian bushel at CB and Mario Benivides at C and he was injured for half the year anyways. We also have Teddy Bridgewater back as a Junior who should look to build on a great season last year and who I believe will take home the Heisman and be a top 5 pick in the draft
Ya I'm anxious to see how Louisville plays this year after such a strong surprise year... and same with Clemson too now that I mention it, they can always hang with the best but year in and year out trip up somewhere, and Taj Boyd is another 1 of my major heisman favorites
Right you have Taj and Sammy Watkins back that should be deadly same with Teddy and Devante Parker but as a Louisville fan we kind of expected a season like that last year but the sugar bowl victory was a huge incentive. I think Notre dame is gonna be the biggest dissapointment team this year. Their O-line is not great and Tommy Reese isn't athletic their offense will struggle alot
Notre Dame won't be a disappointment to me at all, cuz I didn't even view them as a top 5 team at any point last year. They need to join a conference, hell, atleast the Big East.. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they finish .500 this year. I called that blowout in the championship. Obviously with their undefeated record they deserved to be in the championship, but there were atleast 5 teams more skill worthy of that spot I think
I mean honestly they were in so many close games same with Ohio st overrated every single game was a late 4th quarter win or OT I mean if anything happens to Braxton miller they are screwed
GATOR CHOMP? but about our offense we picked up some great wr to help that position and we had a great rb join who's father played for Florida, purifoy also will be an option at wr but won't see much action seeing he's one of our best d backs, so I like us this year
