So, many North Americans know about the Hover Dam. (my introductions suck) ↬If you didn't know↫ The Hoover Dam is a dam (obviously) that is situated on the Black Canyon part of the Colarado River. Formerly known at the Boulder dam, this concrete man-made structure is on the Arizona and Colorado (which are in the United States of America) was "opened" in 1936. It is a popular tourist attraction as its valleys have a unique red tint caused by silt, it is a very large structure and is situated quite near to the "entertainment capital", Las Vegas. It went through many name changes and cuts off Lake Mead. Now, onto the issue It's common knowledge that water is becoming an increasingly scarce, and therefore valuable, "resource". I could go through statistics and such about people not having water, but I'll just leave it as soon, we won't have enough water! Why does this relate to the Hoover Dam? The Hoover Dam'a purpose (aside from stopping flood waters and providing water for irrigation) is to generate electricity. The water levels in Lake Mead are dropping and in a few years, there will not be enough water to generate electricity. This is a major issue since the dam generates electricity for Nevada, Arizona and California! If you've ever been to Vegas, imagine it without electricity or water. :| Sounds funtertastic, eh? Being an enivironmentally-aware non-American, I felt I'd let you know about water issues in your backyard. (and that I got some of this information off the Internet and the rest from presentations/friends) P.S. I'd love to know your thoughts on this and YOU BETTER DAMN READ IT! It took me all of seventeen minutes to write this! P.P.S. I didn't do any spell checks or BB code checks so I hope this turns out not terribly poop P.P.P.S. Sorry for ending it so suddenly, it's around 11:30 so I want to do my homework.. **(_.) Happy unicorning
Water always recycles itself. We may have a 10 year drought or something, but water won't completely vanish off the face of the earth. Blah blah blah Charlie out
Hoover Dam is nearby me Dont get too worried about the water levels. In the 1980s the Dam had overflowing waters where the Dam was wasting water. It is low now, but a few good months of snow in Colorado should help
I always wondered how we have water shortages every summer yet live on a small island where it rains a lot.
governments are short sighted and don't invest in dam building (Australia's problem anyway) instead we wait for a bad drought and build desalination plants that cause pollution and cost the tax payer a bucket load in Australia a lot of water goes to waste up the north end when they should build dams and pipelines in short we have enough water but have hopeless governments who only govern for today and not tomorrow
