This is strictly my opinion on a subject. Feel free to tell me yours but please don't be rude. I'm also from the US and I know this isn't the case everywhere. There’s only two reasons someone would be against Gay marriage. Either their religion says it’s “wrong” or “a sin” or they’re homophobic. Both reasons are not legitimate reasons why two people of the same gender should not be able to pledge themselves to one another for life. Lets get real here people. Marriage is a social contract. It is a lawful union of two people who want to share their lives together. Religion has no place here. If you choose, (YOU, being the key word here) to marry in the eyes of your church, that’s your belief, and not everyone gets married in a church/religious setting. Marriage, however, has nothing to actually do with religion; it’s a lawfully recognized contract holding two people legally responsible for the other person, their actions, debts, etc... Surprise! Everyone has to get the court’s, not the church’s, approval to marry. Therefore, your personal, religious beliefs should have absolutely no bearing on the rights of same sex marriage. Furthermore, if you were so religious, you’d know judgments should not be made! And please, don’t start in on “it’ll ruin the sanctity of marriage!” No it won’t! Long before Gays were even fighting for their marriages to be recognized, heterosexual couples were ruining it just fine and with no help! Divorce rates are at a disgustingly high level, with no end in sight. Marriage is no longer the meaningful, loving mushy poop it used to be and it hasn’t been in decades. Homosexuality isn’t contagious. They are not zombies out to eat your brains. They simply want their love for each other recognized in the same fashion Elizabeth Taylor’s EIGHT marriages were or how about the 5 times Clark Gable was married...the 5 time Boris Karloff was married...Notice the people I’m using are from “the old days” when the “sanctity” was ever so apparent... I say let them be as happy (or miserable) as everyone else. Aaaaaaaaand go!
