*A free verse poem I wrote. Please read The Tire Swing~ We used to sway to and fro on the tire swing and you looked at me as though we could be something As though I meant to you And onn the eves near summer's end we would sit next to the pond listening to the frogs and dragonflies Summer's sun would set as you and I wondered home In those days those simple summer days I fell in love with you and I thought maybe you could love me too Summer days faded away Fall came as did a new day I could never say though and I needed you just to know how on those summer days I fell in love with you Swaying in the breeze on our old tire swing that was where you first kissed me and my cheeks were as ruddy As the setting sun and the butterflies Cloudeded my tummy and I was happy that you could maybe love me. Yet the summer always fades and days change Only stolen glances we our share but I told myself we could be and watched as we both grew older. I have loved you for twelve years now and I never had the courage just to say and she came along And stole you away You're getting married soon Yet I cannot envy her because i never had the courage to just tell you I loved you so like she did. I wish I had but I may never change my mistake as I sit swaying To and fro where I loved you and you first kissed me on those summer days in our old tire swing. ~Renie
