I've thought about heroes from time to time. I watch the movies, I've seen the show, and I've discussed about them before with different views. A hero is someone who sets aside their own life, a person who takes a risk and puts themselves in danger for the sake of saving others. If you have a different definition, go ahead and give your opinion. But what is heroism without the risk? I think it would be a deed and hardly anything more. When we explore the topic of heroes we need to look at their motivations, their risks, the effort that they put into it and the contribution that they put into it. Another name we can give is martyr. This meaning that they sacrificed all they have, their life, for the sake of helping another person. A martyr will never die, they are just as good as a hero, they are heroes, but they are appreciated just as much because of the risk. Does this mean that risk determines heroism? Does that mean the degree of risk does so? Yes and No. And I yes to the second one. Yes, risk does determine heroism because without risk then it can be said as a daily deed. No, risk also does not determine heroism because sometimes there is the danger to the person(s) being saved, and even though the person who saved them was not at risk, the victims were and will dub the savior a hero. And yes, a degree of risk does determine heroism. Again... No risk= deed, Risk result in lose of life = martyr. It needs to be left up to the saved to determine title or no title. It should not be a title that the savior or good do-er calls themself. Now lets get into heroism versus villiany. At what point does a hero become a villian? Can they still call themselves a hero? Do they deserve to be looked at the same again? A hero becomes a villian when they not only risk another person's life but intentionally damages people for their own purposes or on purpose in general. They manipulate the people around them and lie for their own agenda. They'll do whatever they can to get what they want. No, once you start down the path of being a villian there is no looking back and you cannot be called a hero from henceforth. The title of hero does not suit the villian anymore, it is trashed. Yes, a villian can be looked back by others to become the hero again. But in order to redeem themselves they must give up their misguided and bad ways. Only with the help of others can they redeem themselves, BUT never again will the title Hero suit them. They are no longer a hero and no longer a villian but simply redeemed. Vigilante - a member of a self appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement into their community without legal authority. a Vigilante here means that someone does good deeds that only the law enforcement has the justifaction to do. Its not their legal job. Examples of this are Spiderman and Batman. They sometimes destroy any part of the city to stop the villian. Not like they really have a choice. Examples: Anakin Skywalker In the movies Star Wars, Anakin was a good character and did many great deeds and heroic actions that made people look up to him. But in Revenge of the Sith he killed many people for his own agenda to push ahead someone else's. He then became a hypocrit and corrupt. He lost his title of Hero. He was from then on a villian in the original Star Wars trilogies. He redeemed himself in Return of the Jedi by saving his son Luke. This redemption removed his image as a villian, Luke nor anyone else called him neither a villian nor a hero after that point. MacBeth MacBeth was from what I understand a warrior and a hero of his time and place. He was then given power and abused it. He abused his power and went from becoming a hero to a definate villian. From then on he only did terrible things to be called a tyrant for abusing his power. He was killed by MacDuff and in the end remained a villian. Hercules He was a Demi-God. Son of Zeus. But because he has god-like strength, Zeus's goddess wife Hera was jealous that he was not her son as well. Hercules was overall a good man and was not a hero nor a villian. Hera one night made Hercules go mad ( insane) in his sleep to murder his wife and children. Hercules woke up the next morning destroyed, he went to his father Zeus for advice and was sent to a King to redeem himself. He did the 12 labors, all which was for the good of man and was dubbed a hero for his efforts because he risked his life so many times. He eventually went suicide from the torture Hera had done upon him, and earned a place among the gods. Harvey Dent In the movie The Dark Knight, Harvey Dent was probably one of the most human heroes that Gotham had. He fought crime from within the courts and he did not really save people but rather did his job at being a good man. He did anything that seemed to be for the better if everyone else, the way I saw it, and he risked his life a few times. I dub him a hero in that aspect and earned my respect in the movie... until he turned bad. The Joker gave him " a push" and Harvey ended up killing serveral people to fulfill his revenge. It came to the point that he was called a monster. He became a villian, he ended up staying a villian to his last few seconds. The only reason people looked back at his heroism in the past was to hide his villiany and monsterous behavior and actions, that way people do not get discouraged and outraged. And to this, I'll start the next bit by saying this applies to pimd. So, be careful to who you are, who you become, and look at what you do. If others call you out on it...MULTIPLE people ( not all in one big group) ,then listen to them. Gonzo1993
its bcuz you think ppl are more interested in your opinions than they really are. a gaming forum is hardly the place i go to wanting to see someone's theory on himanity. you're very articulate which i can appreciate but seeing all those words in just one post = uninteresting.
mneh true. I usually just like to type whtever comes to mind. I guess people prefer to comment about how noobish another is or be annoyed by questions that are asked every single day Sad be the current time when majority of forums is about people having fake weddings on a game.
I love your threads even tho I stop reading halfway through. I have short attention span but I enjoy reading others ideas and philosophies. Yours are very off topic but very interesting. Keep em coming
After I post each one I now create links to them and pit them in my notes that way I can always find them now
It was quite interesting, but most people won't take the time out of their 'very busy' lives to read these.
"Busy lives" Most the people who cant read these, cant because of laziness not their busy lives. I personally agree with the above posts, i enjoy the ideas you bring up. I read the entire posts although they are quite long sometimes. Keep up the good posts.
