Yes. I made a rant thread. This isn't related to roleplays, however. It's about fan fictioners. I'm tired of trying to give out criticism and getting this backlash from intimidated and defensive authors who won't budge at all. I'm harsh, and I get that new fan fictioners are pretty soft and mushy and have a strong phobia of getting criticism or corrected, so I apologize if I pissed/frightened you off with my posts. That, and cussing. MOTHERFUCKING FUCK SHIT BITCH ASSHOLE ^ There's not much of a different between pure asterisks and simple words that shouldn't affect you psychologically, emotionally, or most of all, physically. BUT. I still get babies crying over how hurt and in pain they are for me using a single 'fuck', and I really want to say this out loud and tell you to grow the motherfucking hell up. I'm at a young age, and I use them freely as part of my speech to express things. I'm not slamming them down your throats and telling you to convert your religion or use them as much as I do, because No! Don't lecture me on my usage, and don't try to use that as an excuse to get me off your thread or whatever. A simple request to swear less would be fine, and I would gladly oblige, but a rude and sudden 'can you please stop swearing on my thread? ' makes me want to make a literal hole in your virtual face. And THEEEEEEN BACK TO THE CRITICISM PART AND ADDING A GRUDGE PART TO THATTTTTT. I've had this happen before. Like, a million gajillion times. I'm not saying I haven't done it either, but looking back I can sure as hell say that wasn't me being mature, and it isn't you being either. In truth you should be pretty damn grateful for getting criticism in the first place, since it's what makes authors move forward. But, I'd just like to tell you all to NOT HOLD A FUCKING GRUDGE WHEN SOMEONE TRIES TO CORRECT YOUR STORY. Please. No. Just. Why. NOOOOOOO. I'm also tired of hearing the worst excuses in mankind for not wanting to accept the criticism. 'Oh, I have an editor already.' and then the story has like numerous grammar mistakes and such. What's next? 'Pixies took my rough draft and threw it out the window for fun'. Okay, that I might understand (you've got humor young lady >) but the rest are just sad. But again, I'm not forcing you to take it, but please don't get full on cray and jam your think pan into your ass hat and then do the monkey dance, because dat's not right. YOU HAVE TO STICK YOUR ASS HAT ONO THE THINK PANNNNN. See what I mean? But I really don't want this to just be a thread standing alone here, so do whatever you want and join in on a discussion. Refrain from using names though, we aren't bashing people, just pointing out some flaws and wanting to bring in some new improvements. I think a discussion would benefit fan fiction greatly! Oh well, see how this turns out.
! It is so true!! Although I panicked a bit when I saw 'Pixies'.. Then I realised that its not about me!
I wholeheartedly agree with you on every single point you made here. Ive been writing for years and i know my stuffs not great, i appreciate criticism. It is the new writers that dont like it. You know, try and help people, they snap. But, i so agree with you, and i would love if you criticize my work.
People don't like it because nobody gives it I saw a horrible story and the worse piece of criticism was "Interesting"
I know. It's just god awful when you receive just a 'BUMP' even when it's on the first page or a 'hmmmm interesting' when you're not even done with the prologue yet. Just how the hell is that? D:
I concur (that'slikethefunniestwordever) I mean, I don't mind to get 'hmmmm interesting' most of the times, but can't people spare some opinions and criticism of sorts? I don't know, talk and discuss? FF used to be so vibrant!
Key term there, Chole USE TO. I agree with you and Jack. I see horrible stories with text language and NO CAPITALIZATION IN YOUR TITTLE!(Grrr! That annoys the crap out of me!) and you have that one little screw up that post BUMP! or HMM INTERESTING. I mean can you be just a bit more vague for me. Sometimes it's not the writer's fault, it's the viewers'
I can safely say that I have fallen victim to posting the dreaded and somewhat vague so called "review" that is "hmmm interesting". But, having said that it was on most occasions due to the fact that the author had done a great job on a chapter/update (whatever) but I felt like it was missing something or something didn't gel. So, the controversial phrase "hmmm interesting" seemed to suffice at the time. I find that the phrase in itself means that the reader is intrigued, but, perhaps needs more from the author to be fully captivated. It's a double edged sword really. A win-lose scenario. HOWEVER! Do take into account that not everybody is going to give you bountiful reviews filled with a hearty mix of appreciation and constructive critisim. You will get people, be they English scholars or not, that with chew your ears off with a long review (in this case burn your eyes) and, likewise, those that will simply say bump or hmmm interesting. Alas, that shall forever be the way the cookie crumbles. All I can say is this; be grateful you have readers, seek out a beta if you want constant feedback etc, be confident in yourself i.e. don't be a review whore, AND ABOVE ALL ELSE! Don't trust these fuckers They'll take over the world man! I swear they will!
But still, I used to do WHAT? Make rants filled with unintentional dirty jokes and purposely put shitty puns and make everybody uncomfortable and melt like pudding with the word 'schnuffindabutt'?
No,not like that. When you sad "FF USE TO be vibrant. The key word there is it use to, meaning that it know longer is. Sorry for the confusion.
