Ashes

The blistering air burned into my lungs, tightening them making it almost impossible to breathe. I pull my shirt over my mouth and nose, gasping for fresh air. I roll out of bed and lay on the ground the thick black smoke hanging over my room. I could hear flames burning strongly as my heart stops my home was going to ashes. The walls now blackened from the smoke and ash. I crawl to the door a couple yards away, reaching up for the handle only to yank my hand back cursing. My hand started blistering in a perfect line across my hand. I look around spotting my wooden bat from when I was little. I crawl over and grip it in my good hand as I stand. I raise it over my head smashing the door handle, as the door swings open and I see flames licking the hallway ceiling. I can make it through, but only if I'm quick. I take a running stance but as I'm about push off and go. A scream pierces the air. It was barely audible, but no doubt. It came two rooms down the hall, from my little six year old brothers room. I concentrate all my energy on jumping through the flames blocking my doorway into the hall. I push off running three years before leaping of the scorched maroon rug. I land heavily on my feet, the sound of cracking wood catching my attention. I look to the floor where I landed, but nothing is happening. I look to the left just in time to see the wood and walls of Carter's room splinter and crumple down to the first floor. His room, once on the second floor is now in the living room on the first floor. With him in it..."CARTERRR!!"

no it's not a true story but it was inspired by my friend who's house recently burned down last Tuesday. No worries though. He's ok
