I kneel down beside the hospital bed, grabbing ahold of the icy metal rails on the bed. "How ya feeling old man?" I laugh as my grandpa smiles and replies. "Better than you." We both start laughing till he begins coughing. "Oh crap. Wasn't suppose to be taking to you." he stops and clenches his teeth, releasing the tension moments later. "Those nurses don't know what they're talking about." I lean back in my chair. "The kinda do." he takes a sip of his water bottle and stares at me grinning. "I like messing with them." My eyes widen a bit. "Watcha mean by that?" He smirks. "Watch." He presses a button on the white bed remote control inclining it to a sitting position. "AHHH!!" I stare stupefied laughing. Two nurses run in. "What's wrong? Are you breathing ok?" he laughs filling the now silent room with echoing laughter. "Oh I'm fine. Just wanted to see how fast you could get in here." We start laughing as tears of joy fall from my eyelid. "Mr. Myers you can't do that. Don't call unless it's an emergency." I look at him and then back to the two nurses who looked like twins except for one was about a foot taller than the other. Long dark hair just past the shoulders. "it was an emergency." The taller one crosses her arms and purses her lips. "Oh yea, what is it this time?" He starts laughing slightly grimacing grabbing his side. "Well one, my bed is all messed up. The sheets are uneven and I have nothing to do." The taller one who is now scowling, turns looking at her co-worker. "You're an annoying man you know that right?" He smiles wide. "Oh I know. It's fun screwing with you because you get all upset." I muffle a laugh as I turn avoiding their gaze. "Well you can go now sorry to bother you ladies." They both smile. "Mr. Myers you are one of the most annoying men I have ever met." He leans up more. "You still love me thought." We all laugh. "Yes, unfortunately it's hard not to. Well Hunner you have to go now. Visiting hours are up.
I stand from my chair and lean over the bed, wrapping my arms around him, strategically avoiding the tubes and other things hooked to him. "I love you." he hugs back and rubs my back. "I love you too little man. Be good ok." I lean away. "You too." He smiles as I turn and leave, the nurses closing the door behind us. I don't really care if any of you like this, I just enjoy writing on various memories. This happens to be a favorite last memory of someone special to me. He taught me to be strong, and forgiving. Learn to laugh no matter when, where, or who ever with. R.I.P I hope I'm making you proud -Hunner
