dreams

Sleep, for most, would basically be oblivion. It would be like a passing tunnel, when the train goes in and out, just like that. You'd see a clear sky, the green, and the railroad tracks, but then everything goes black and bright again.

    black and bright again

I see cities, when I sleep.

They're transparent, invisible, but they glow. They're glowing with what feels like... Like when you're unwrapping your first present on your birthday. When everyone's standing by and whispering to be quiet while the lights dim, and you're so focused you don't even hear the wailing of your newborn brother that ruins most of other kids' parties. You're entranced by the texture of the ribbons between the gap of your fingers, fondling the wrapping paper as if it were made of diamonds and nostalgia, captured by your own euphoria as seconds pass by and become minutes, and you're still sitting there, not bothered by the background noise and keeping everybody on the edge of waiting. Even your baby brother quiets down.

It's only when you rip open the wrapping paper do you wake up from your trance. It's not that the present is awful, but it's the thought of a surprise that keeps you filled with excitement. The suspense that fuels your limitless imagination. A new bike, a doll, a new dog?

    It's the glow of curiosity.

Wanting to see beyond those towers, to know. it's our subconscious desire as human beings to try to understand things even beyond our comprehension.

How the tip touches the sky, and how the stars form around in the limitless space. You glance upwards and trace the constellations with your fingertips, and feel the light breeze passing your hand.

    It's a quiet dream.

The roads are paved with stones of all shapes and sizes, colors splayed across the ground so randomly, creating a beautiful contrast, blending all the stones into one. They're still significant in their own special way, like how a puzzle is incomplete without the final piece. Take away a stone, and everything crumbles apart. You wonder who even has the capabilities of making a masterpiece using such vibrant stones, but the thought is brief.

A gust of wind blows and lifts you up from this little bubble of a dream, and you waft away with the breeze looking at the landscape from a distance. You hum, with the wind, a silent tune, broken but complete, like the towers so tall that touch the limitless sky. Like a bird taking flight.

    And you fall.

It isn't a tumble, nor a staggering drop, but a fall.

Every bird, at least when they learn, falls when they fly. It's similar to how a human makes mistakes while learning to walk, starting from a crawl. You'll stumble, but you'll get up again.

It's the sensation of trying to succeed and learning from your mistakes what makes it special. We all have a drive to succeed, and even something as trivial as learning how to walk proves it. There are times when we give up, but there are almost always remorse in those decisions that we make.

Our decisions may be impulsive and spontaneous, or carefully planned and precise, but in the end, a decision is a decision and we can't take back what we've done.

We can either advance, or abscond.

I guess it was only my last minute choice to sink instead of float.

Water surrounds you and obscures your sight, but through the bubbling haze there's a bright burst of light. You wonder how long this dream will take, but it isn't a complaint but just a thought of what would unravel in this journey of the mind. Your vision clears and it's pitch black, save for the miniature light source.

    It's a firefly.

You softly cup the insect in your palms, and let out a gentle sigh. Bubbles form from your breath and the firefly bursts again, and everything returns to darkness.

    You're suddenly afraid.

And isn't that what we're all afraid of? The unknown? Shrouded by the darkness, a mysterious force that triggers fear in most. We all have the desire to know, and we fear not knowing.

You don't fully process the thought, however, as a current pushes you through and you're greeted by the cold touch of air.

    And the bubble bursts.

This was the dream I had, but then I woke up at like 5 something from my neighbors going 'HAHAHAHA OH MY GOD I AM SO DRUNK I WANT TO BOOTYYYYY'

Such an unpleasant wake up call. :c

So I decided to write what I dreamt of.

I'm posting this on Off Topic because I want to see your reactions to this, because it's not often that someone posts a oneshot here because they want to. Trust me though, I know this belongs in FF but it's just interesting to see how most would react to this. Hate, 'idgafs'? Oh well.

I haven't done this in a while, though. XD
