I back up against the brick wall. Blood trickles from my head and into my mouth. I hear growling coming from around the corner of the wall. I try to slow my breathing but it didn't work. The creature steps out from the corner and I know it's over for me. It steps closer and I can smell its rancid breath on my face. I close my eyes and wait for the end. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 Month Earlier The ship landed on the dusty ground. I put my helmet back on and jumped off. All around was desert and glass. Of course it was. They were here already. "Ma'am?" I heard someone say behind me. I turned around and saw a corporal standing there. "It's been a while since I've last been here," I said absentmindedly. "Let's go." I hopped into the front seat of a jeep and waited for everyone else. Once they were in, I took off. There wasn't much to look at. The parts that weren't glassed in the attack were sand. Not even a tree was left standing. Broken bodies of both soldiers and enemies lay side by side. I grit my teeth. They deserve better than this. It's been four years and still they haven't claimed the bodies. When we reached the F.O.B., i jumped out and walked to the small structure. It didn't seem very big on the outside. But knowing O.N.I., looks can be deceiving. It was about 10 feet high and made out if cement. The length was about 13 feet across. The door was metal and locked with a pass code. I entered it and the door swung open. A couple of ODSTs were standing there to escort us to the captain's quarters. I nodded to them and they led us to an elevator. We went down about 20 stories and finally stopped. When the doors parted, they revealed a long hallway. Soldiers were walking to and from different doors along the hall. They all stopped when they saw me. I'm used to the stares, but from civilians, not my own comrades. But I guess standing at about 7 feet tall in green armor will have its downsides. But the pros hide them. At the end of the hall was a white door. The ODSTs led us down the hall to the door. They opened it and motioned us inside. The room was small with a dark rosewood desk. The captain sat behind the desk with a folder in his hand. "Sir!" I saluted. "At ease, Spartan." I relaxed my pose. "I'm ready for orders, sir," I said. The captain nodded and stood up. He walked over to me and handed to file. I flipped through it and looked at the captain. "A rescue mission? For who?" I asked confused. "Another Spartan. We found her barely alive holed up in a cave near Long Horn River." I looked at the ID number. "A three? Aren't the all dead?" "Spartans never die. They're just missing in action. Get to it," the captain said. "Sir, yes, sir!"
They can die they just don't wanna worry the public so they put Mia and Spartans were stolen when they were kids.
