I seriously recommend skipping over to Dave's introduction. You'll have to read up on John Egbert and Rose Lalonde though, if you do so. I can assure you that it'll be funny as fuck once Strider steps in.
Aw, don't skip all of that just to get to Dave! I mean, he's awesome and everything, but you still need to read everything to understand the story.
True, but I was thinking about the people who want to understand how homestuck can be so absorbing, and reading Act 1 and 2 to get to Dave and Jade and the rest of the crew to finally understand doesn't seem like a good way to get someone to at least understand our crazy fandom. XD Just a glimpse of Dave's chats would be sufficient, haha. XD
