Clock's Ticking

  1. 7.

    7 Hours.

    7 Hours to live.

I read through the note, my hands shaking. I ran my finger over a creased corner and read the words aloud, the disbelief clear in my hazel eyes.

"You know what you've done. Scum like you disgust me. You will be rid off. Forever. You have 7 hours to live. Don't try to run, nor try to hide. It's pointless. I'm watching....Always."

My hands froze. My face paled and my long black hair fell across it. The note stayed in full view, in my motionless hand. I sunk down onto the sofa behind me and shut my eyes, replaying my life so far.

I was born at one minute to midnight, to the astonishment of my mother and father. They decided to name me "Midnight." Then there was a freak accident driving home. Mum: gone. I never even knew her. Father got deppressed and Auntie looked after me. Dad went to rehab for something I wasn't aloud to be told. Aunt Mary got fired, then depressed too. But she turned to abuse...

So I ran away. It was simple really. I was 16 and needed an escape. I gathered my things, took some money out of aunties' purse, and boarded the train to freedom. Oh how I wished...

I was 16 and living on the streets. I had a small amount of money, and so rented a flat. It was smelly, stained, dull and small. I hadn't realised it would be this hard. I applied for jobs, but I was young with no qualifications. No one would accept me. There was only one thing I could do.

The twelth of May was the day I became a prostitute. After a few years of saving up money and carrying on with my job, I eventually bought a small house. I quit my job and worked at Tescos. But one night just before I was about to quit my first job, something big happened...

I guess the past is catching up with me.

I sighed and shuddered, then tugged the black hoodie around my shoulders. It was him, it had to be. I put the note on the top of a wooden cabinet and walked out of the living room. Then I locked the front and back doors.

I lived alone. I had a few friends, but generally chose not to socialise, so I doubt they'd come round to my house.

Just as I was about to turn and double-check the house, I heard a clattering from the fireplace. I hurriedly walked over and looked around it.

It looked normal. There were candles and pictures on it and in the middle of the fireplace, a dark black area where a fire would have been. It got removed before I moved in, two years ago. I'm twenty now.

I peered into the black pit and gulped. Another neatly folded note lay out of place in the surrounding darkness. I gently lifted it out, anxious not to tear. My curiousity rose and I carefully unfolded it.

"Clock's ticking. 6 and a half hours remaining. Relax for now, the game has barely begun..."

Sorry about the little amount of description. D: This was mainly to show what's going on. Purposely distant about some parts, and what happened on the "night" will be revealed in time.

  2. bump. Wall me when each update is done.

  3. Bump, I'm interested to see where this goes

  4. Will do. ^-^

And there's quite a few twistsso it's not your typical 'character has a few hours to live and then gets killed or somehow saved' story. That's just , like , a background plot. JS incase it put anyone off.

  5. Lol ok!

  6. Awh! Update!

  7. "Oh ****," I mumbled under my breath. "It's okay, it's just someone pretending. They must be playing a prank or something." I tried to convince myself but it was useless.

As if someone could hear me, a loud bang echoed from the distance. Coincidence or not, there's no way I'm taking chances.

I jogged back into my living room and with every ounce of strength, heaved an armchair away until it could be pushed against the front door. Then I did the same with the back door and walked back to the hallway.

I froze and quickly went upstairs and into the bathroom. I'd forgotten about the window in there!

The bathroom is small with white tiles and walls, a blue mat and a sink, toilet, bath and shower. It also contained a small window with a light blue curtain embracing it.

I felt an uneasy feeling in my stomach as I pushed back the curtains. I knew something must be wrong...

On the window in a blood red scrawl it said, "I know how much you like candles, so I guess you must like fire. Too bad if not...By the way...6 hours and 15 minutes left. Say your goodbyes already."

I gulped as the scent of smoke filled my nostrils.

    Aw ****.

  11. update

  12. I have a really small update that was already made yesterday. I just chose to scrap it as I thought things were moving too fast in the story. I've changed the storyline partly though and edited a little so I guess I'll post it. It's a tiny update though.

  13. I inhaled the scent again and placed a trembering pale hand onto the pure white sink. I shut my eyes then opened them again, and blinked rapidly.Surely this can't be happening? I rolled up my black hoodie sleeve revealing a skinny arm. I pinched it hard, yet nothing happened. I sighed and cautiously stepped across the tiles, reaching my hand out to skim the edges of the wooden door.

Cold. Good. My hands wrapped around the handle and I opened the door completely. A gasp escaped my open lips as my eyes connected with the cream wall, now covered with soot.

I frozed and took a step back. My eyes darted around the landing, looking for a way of knowing how it had happened. The floor looked normal, and the stairs were their usuall grotty brown. The bathroom door and my bedroom door looked normal too, it was just the wall above my bedrooom door that had been disturbed.

I tentatively walked across the carpet, careful not to trip on some string laying on the floor, and gazed at the wall, reading it over and over uin a quiet whisper.

"6 Hours left and the games are kicking into action, but don't worry, there's no fire....yet."

Sorry I didn't improve my vocabulary much, but this update was already written out. I just added a bit more description too it. There'll be more about the character in the next update, as then some of the past is revealed.
