Story Challenge 

Discussion in 'Fan Fiction' started by Redneck_Rebel, Dec 13, 2012.

  1. My little sister issued me a challenge last night. She challenged me to a writing contest claiming I couldn't write about any topic she came up with. I told her to bring it on. So here's the story. Keep in mind, I'm writing this so my teenage (blonde) sister can understand, so please bear with the simplicity.  If this story mimics any other story, I apologize b/c I just came up with the plot this morning. Here goes nothing.

Hi. My name is Sasha. I'm 18 years old and recently graduated high school. This story is an account of events from my pov, as well as my boyfriend, Colin, and my best friend, Amy.

    (Sasha)
I awaken to the smell of crisp, clean air and warm sunshine. It was the kind of day that made you want to rejoice in being alive. Not hot like in summer, but not cold yet, either. It was the kind of day that made you want to jump in a big pile of crunchy leaves. Perfection in my opinion.
I stretch and sit up in my bed, wondering what the gang has planned for this picturesque Saturday morning.
It's a Love Story by Taylor Swift starts going off, indicating a text message from Colin. I reach over to grab phone, a sappy grin spreading across my face.

" Hey Beautiful. How'd you sleep?"

"Good timing. LOL. I literally just woke up. What's on the agenda for today?" I text back.
Almost immediately, another one comes in.

"Dad gave me free reign of the boat this weekend. Gather the gang. Weekend boating trip. You get the girls, I'll get the guys." Colin's message said.

  3. I spam Amy with texts until she finally answers.
    "wake up"
    "Wake up"
    "Wake Up"
    "WAKE UP"
    "WAKE UP".

    "WHAT?!" The incoming text said.

I started laughing imagining her outrage at being woken up before noon on Saturday.

" Weekend boating trip. Pack up and meet everyone @ Cols house in 1 hr".

"I suppose the guys will bring fishing crap again"

"No doubt. U know how they get when it comes 2 fish. Lol. R u packing 4 disaster again?" I text

"Of course. When have u ever known me not 2??"
I read Amy's text and start chuckling all over again.

    I reply " When r u going 2 realize that stuff isn't ever needed??"

"Better prepared than caught unaware" is the only reply I get back. Sometimes I think Amy seriously needs some heavy therapy but I still love her.

"Girl, nothing ever happens. Leave that stuff @ home

It's 7:30 am and I'm already awake and dressed and working at my computer when my dad knocks on my open door and walks in. I swivel around and suddenly squint my eyes as he clicks the light switch, temporarily blinding me. When I'm able to open my eyes I notice he's wearing his 3 piece traveling suit and he's carrying his briefcase and a carry on duffle. I know his suitcase is already by the stairs because I tripped over it last night in the dark.

"You kids have anything important planned this weekend?" He asks

"Just hanging out, I suppose" I said, sounding bored and uninterested. I run my hand through my shaggy black hair, noting that I am in desperate need of a hair cut. Sasha doesn't like unkempt guys.

    "Here"

I turn, barely catching the key ring and avoiding getting whacked in the head. I look at my dad rather puzzled. Why was he giving me his key chain??

"The boat keys. Take it out while I'm gone. Give it a good run and stay out as long as y'all want. Two conditions though" He tells me.

I roll my eyes and give an exasperated sigh. Here comes the lecture. I KNEW it was coming.

"What are the conditions, Dad?" I say sarcastically.

" BE CAREFUL and go over the safety checklist with EVERYONE, ok?"

"Thanks Dad. Have a good flight and good luck in Japan. Can you bring back a purple kimono for Sasha? It's her fav color".

Dad claps his hand on my shoulder and says " I'll see what I can do. See you next week, Colin. I love you son"

"I love you too, Dad" I reply, already texting Sasha

If I had known what the future held, I would've given my dad a hug.

Ugh. It's 8 am and my friggin text messaging keeps going off. "I'm gonna kill that girl" I mutter to myself as I grab my stupid phone. I read my text messages and jump out of bed and run to my twin sister, Amelia's room.

" WAKE UP, LIA" I holler.

"Why the Hades are you waking me up so early, you brat?" Lia answers grudgingly.

"We've got an hour to get to Colin's for a weekend long boating trip. NOW. GET. UP. AND. PACK!"

I race back to my room and hurriedly dress in a black sweatshirt and denim bell bottoms and tennis shoes. I pull my hair back into a ponytail and start throwing stuff into my duffle bag. Sweaters, jeans, extra socks, big spray, sunblock. I grab another duffle and head to the basement. I can Lia moving quickly around her room. I guess Sasha finally got her motivated. Probably told her Troy was going. I step into the basement and survey my fathers supplies. I grab flares, MRE's, a large first aid box, flashlights, batteries, solar powered walkie talkies and water purification tablets. I head back upstairs and wait by the front door for Lia.

I admit it, Im as paranoid as my dad. He says he'd rather I take stuff from the stock than be caught unprepared.

Lia FINALLY comes down the stairs and we make it to the car lugging our duffles. I can hear hers crinkling, so I know she overpacked with little Debbie snack cakes and sweets again. Good thing I packed enough clothes for her and Sasha too.

We finally make it to Colin's house, which thankfully, was only a few miles down my street. We were the first ones to arrive and Colin guided us past his enormous house and manicured lawn with its freaky bush sculptures and down to his personal marina. He walked us to the boat, which was more like a small yacht than regular boat.

As we boarded the yacht, I couldn't shake this internal sense of dread...as if something was about to happen that would change all our lives..and not in a good way.
