It's hard to remember what the world was like before it all began. But if I think hard enough, I can remember. I remember myself when I was a clumsy 17 year old trying to enjoy my book when I was startled to hear an ear-shattering scream coming from the hallway right outside of my apartment room. It was a scream that to this day still chills me to to bone. It was the scream of my mother. I didn't think twice about bursting through the door and into the hallway. My commotion startled the monstrosity that was sucking the life force from my mother. The creature looked up from where it knelt next to my mother and I locked eyes with it. This creature was very strange, and quite ugly as well. It was pale white with these orange eyes that seemed to glow and two long eye teeth for penetrating flesh. A terrifying shriek sounded from the creature and which made my ears ring an my vision blur. What is this thing? What has it done to my mother?! I thought. I was ready to ran back into my apartment and hide when I saw the faintest of movement from my mother. Her finger twitched. I've never been good at thinking things through before I execute my actions, which is exactly why I charged at the monster and slammed into him. "Get away from my mom!" I yelled at him. I turned only to trip over a grocery bag my mother had been carrying and stumbled until I hit the ground. Of course, why would anything go smoothly for me? I was surprises at myself for how fast I got up and started to drag my mother away by the arms, I realize now that it was the adrenaline pumping through my veins. I kept my eyes locked on the pale humanoid monster as I dragged my mother into our apartment. It was slowly creeping towards us in a hunched over position but it never went faster than my speed for some reason. I slammed the door shut and locked it and was about to go for the phone when the creature body checked the door. This one hit caused a hinge to break. I looked down at my mother to see if I could wake her. Her eyes were closed and there were two puncture wounds on her neck. Only then did I connect the dots. This monster was pale white, it had two long teeth, and it bit the neck. My eyes widened as I realized the name of the creature. A vampire.
this is really good! One of the better stories here. Bump! Critique is to give more description, but I like the words you use.
Thoughts raced trough my head. A vampire? But that's impossible! Vampires don't exist! I thought. But I was soon interrupted by another smash against my door and I screamed for help. The monster shrieked once more then fled. I heard it's quick footsteps rushing down the hall and a window shatter. "Hey! Hey kid! You all right in there? Open the door." A man said from the other side of my busted up door. I was only half aware of him, for my eyes were focused on the corpse that lay before me. My mother, Sarah, was still and surprisingly cold as ice. Gashes and bite marks covered her once fair skin and her eyes were open and glazed, almost as if she were still seeing the horror that attacked her. More people gathered outside of my door and were now trying to force it open. Why didn't they come when mom screamed? How come they're only here now?
I glanced at the door then back to Sarah and felt tears start to gather in my eyes. I flinched as the door was sharply opened and winced at the sound of the hinge breaking. Three adults rushed in, asking me questions like "Are you okay?" "What happened?" "Did you do this?" I was unresponsive to them all. "She's in shock. When need to call the police and get her out of here!" One of the two men said. I was slowly coming back to reality, and the closer I got the more painful it was. Sarah was dead. My mother, the woman who had always stood beside me was gone. Tears flowed down my cheeks and I knelt down, hugging Sarah's body close. It took some effort but eventually the men were able to pry my arms off Sarah while the third person, a woman, was on the phone with the cops, frantically reporting what had occured. I screamed and kicked and fought with all my strength against the man who was holding me back, his strong, large arms were wrapped around my arms and torso tightly in an attempt to control me. I knew that against him I had no hope of escaping his grip, which enraged me, caused to fight harder. By the time the authorities arrived I had tired myself out and was laying limp in the man's arms, still crying. His lock was still tight around me since he didn't trust me enough to let go, but he was trying to comfort me with soothing words. Two officers were escorting me down the hallway to the stairs when someone shouted from my apartment, followed by a gun shot. My blood froze when I heard that same horrid screech. That thing was back! "Get down!" One officer pushed me down to avoid any stray bullets and I looked over my shoulder. I looked down the hallway and saw a figure standing there, bodies littering the floor around it. I gasped when I saw familiar curled red hair that framed a fair skinned face. Orange eyes glared at me, and they stood out boldly against the extremely white skin. She wore ripped jeans and a shredded long sleeved shirt, both drenched in fresh blood stains. Her lips pulled back, showing off her long eye teeth. The middle of her upper lip was now naturally split apart and pulled up and conjoined with the bridge of her nose, almost like what you'd see on a cat. Her ears were long and pointed and stuck out through her thick hair. She clenched her fists, each of her fingers had grown longer and ended in a rock hard claw. She looked like the monster that had attacked her. She snarled and stepped toward us. "Mother..." I whispered in sadness. Sarah took another step towards us, she was ready to kill.
