Ꮖ stood there. Staring. Praying. Wishing. Wishing that she would just...wake up. They say she's in a sταβΙε condition. And there's a chαηcε she might wake up. I hate those words: Stable and chance. I also hate: Cancer, car accident and coma. That's what happened to her. My mum. The woman who looked after my for the last twelve years of my life. She might be dying. I sat on her bed and held her cold, pale hands. She still looked as beautiful as ever. Her long blonde hair still fell perfectly. A nurse came in to check her breathing, and saw me sitting on her bed.
"Is this your sister?" She asked me. Everybody asks this, she was only 15 when she had me...
"No. She's my mother..." I replied, my head hanging. She looked shocked. But comforted me anyway.
"She'll be fine. She's in a stable condition!" She replied. I decided that I hated that nurse. Just for using that word on the list of words that I hate! I put my iPod earphones into my mum's ears. They say you can hear stuff in a coma. And once, a kid was in a coma and the parents got his favourite band to record a message, and they played it, and he woke up. I'm hoping by playing her favourite song, Lego House by Ed Sheeran, she might wake up. You know what, I'm going to add 'might' to the list of words that I hate. 'She mιghτ wake up' or 'We mιghτ go and visit her.' Honestly, I just think it's a nice way of saying 'No'.

I got out my notebook and added might, maybe, possibly and probably to the list of words that I hate. I took the headphones away from my mum and unplugged them so that I could listen as well. I listened to the lyrics. Her second favourite song was playing. 'I've loved you for a thousad years, I'll love you for a thousand more...'. I listened to the music for about 20 minutes. Then, she twitched. I can't believe it! She twitched! Does this mean she might wake up?! Damn it...I said might! I got up, and started walking down the long hospital corridoors. I walked out of the building and across the road into my house. I heard my brother, Zak, playing with my little sister, Bliss.
"Look, Scarlet's home! Yay!" Zak said to Bliss to try and get her to calm down.
"Scarlet! Scarlet!" She said. "Mummy? Where's mummy? MUMMY?! MUMMY WHERE ARE YOU?!" She said. I wished she was older. I didn't like being the oldest. It meant I had to look after them. I had to be brave. But, I just couldn't. "Scarlet, where's Mummy?" She asked. That question. It was heartbreaking. Where was Mummy? I shook my head then went upstairs to my room. Bliss followed. "WHERE'S MY MUMMY?!" She screamed. Her little voice echoed all over the house. She stopped following me. Se stared at the ground. She started to cry. That sound. That was heartbreaking too. A child's cry for her mother. I couldn't bare it. I locked myself in my room.

The next morning, I got into my school uniform and had my breakfast: toast. But, not just any toast, chocolate spread toast. Chocolate spread is - ... was my mum's favourite toast topping. I got out my list and added was. It was going to be a pretty long list. I sat at the table in silence eating my toast, wondering what my friends would say to me in school. I hadn't been in for two whole weeks. The hospital asked my teacher to explain to everybody while I was away so that they didn't call me a skyver or a sicky girl. At least, I hope Miss Gregson told them, I mean, how can she forget about the little girl's mum that's in a coma?! I finished my toast and head into school. I got into the gates and my best friend called me.
"Hey! Where you been? You left me with Claudia!" She said. I sniggered. "Hey, that's not funny!" She exclaimed. "So, I heard about your mum, I'm sorry hunny," she said. She then hugged me tight. Stangling me. I went purple.
"Ok, don't put me in a coma too!" I said. She looked somewhat shocked that I said that. Surprised maybe.
"She's in a coma?!" She asked. "Miss Gregson told us she had the flu!" She exclaimed. I was mortified. People are going to call me sicky girl. Worst day ever...
