I-What is RolePlay?

RolePlay, or RP for short, is when you make a virtual character, human or otherwise, most likely via online or through some game, and act them out. I'm only talking about one type of RP though, and that's the one on PIMD Fanfiction Forums. Or should, anyway.

For example, say there were two characters were named Character 1 and Character 2

Character 1- *snatches the previously lit match from Tash's fingers and throws it upon the house, setting it ablaze within seconds, laughing maliciously*

Character 2- That was my last match! Our food! How dare you?! *bolts into the blazing house, shielding eyes, nose and mouth from the dense smoke and falling ash, making my way toward the last of our food*

And so on.

II-What can I RP?

You can RP anything as long as it follows the ToU. Although, you'd most likely anger a few oldies if you decide to act as ponies and makeout against a counter top. Try to keep it relevant to the story. Also, if you made a RP in under five minutes, don't post it. Try to add to it, make sure it's original, and make sure there isn't 12 other active RPs.

III-How many active RPs are acceptable?

Now this is rather a touchy subject, since it's very opinionated. Some people say that there should be as many as they like and deserve equality. Others, ones that tend to be more experienced and respected, say there should be none and RP does not, by any means, deserve equality. I, on the other hand, fall in the middle. I think that there should be about 1-3 original active RPs.

IV-Why shouldn't there be more?

This, for some, has an obvious answer. Others might be oblivious. Why shouldn't there be more than 1-3 RPs? Because Fanfiction is meant for stories. But these are interactive stories, right? Wrong. Most of the RPs I've seen here are unoriginal jokes.

V-How should I RP?

Since most of you are conceited little people, you probably won't even take this into consideration, but listen- or read- now. If you insist on RPing, be descriptive. For example, instead of saying

Character 1- Haha you lose

Say

Character 1- Ha! I win yet again! *rises head in the moment of pride, beaming upward, a smirk etched across my lips*

VI-Where should I RP?

Well this is easy, right? You RP on PIMD forums, yes? No. I encourage you to check out an app calling Future Combat. (FC for short) This is the agreed destination for RP among the older RPers and story writers.

VII-What is a skeleton?

A skeleton, or skele for short, is the proper way to apply or sign up for a RP. These are supposed to be given out by the maker of the RP. It's an introduction file for your character. These usually consist of things such as appearance and personality.

VIII-What should my skeleton consist of?

Most skele's I've seen pretty much look like this:

A good general skeleton consists of

Name of character:
Age:
Facial features:
Hair style and color:
Skin tone:
Clothing:
Other physical features:
Brief history/Bio:

I chose to leave Personality out because it's not you who should determine your personality, it's the other RPers. They choose how they view you.

Other, more sci-fi or fantasy type RPs may consist of

Species:
Weapon of choice:
Secondary weapon of choice:
Class:
Special Powers:

And so on. Since all RPs should be original, all skeletons should also be original, following the RP. These are just examples.

IX-What should my character look like?

There are endless possibilities for what your characters could look like. Don't be afraid to make them a bit imperfect. Maybe a bit chubby, clumsy, blind, albino. Just make them a bit more human than ninja whores. Instead of that 6-pack, try being a stringy.

Just don't post a picture and say

'this is what I look like'

You've got to be more original than that. I encourage RP owners not to accept people who aren't original enough to even create their own character.

X-What RPs count as original?


Original: (Or-ri-gi-nãl]
1. Preceding all others in time; first.
2. a. Not derived from something else; fresh and unusual: an original play, not an adaptation.
b. Showing a marked departure from previous practice; new: a truly original approach.
3. Productive of new things or new ideas; inventive: an original mind.
4. Being the source from which a copy, reproduction, or translation is made.

So, in other words, any RP;

- Following plots of an already published book or movie
- that follows daily life of a hormonal raging teenager at high school
-that doesn't have a particular plot, just follows life
-that took you more than 15 minutes to put together
-That has a story worth telling
-That is not piggybacking another story
-That has hold been told countless times, published or otherwise

Is considered original, in my standards, at least.
