One Final Case (Reposted) I can't be late again! I thought as I ran down the street in the rain. It was already 8:52a.m. and I needed to be at work at 9. I continued through the rain until I came to the all to familiar abandoned house and I had to stop. You see, I'm an investigator, in a small town, Encinitas California, well... at least I used to be. Jim Caraway is the name you might of heard I me? I was the one who solved the diamond theft mystery and captured Nick Gregory the infamous murderer. Anyways, as I was saying I always stop at this old abandon house, it brings back the memories you know? The biggest mystery of my career started, and ended in this house, it was where I caught Nick Gregory 14 murders later and finally ended this rein of terror.
I remember the day I got the case. It was a Tuesday, 3 days after I stated my new job at an electronic repair store i can't remember the name I was only there a week. Anyways, I was at my repair station working on an old computer when my boss barged through the door screaming "You've only been her 3 days Caraway and you've already had more visitors than anyone else who has been here over 5years! One more this week and your fired I can't have you wasting my profits by socializing all day!" I'll admit I've been getting a lot of people coming in with cases anywhere from a lost watch to a stolen car and I felt bad turning them all down. So I was very surprised when the chief of police entered the room. Immediately he sat down and started talking to me. "Jim will you please come back? Your the best investigator Encinitas has ever had." "what's the case? I asked rather annoyed." "Well it involves murders of 10 people... Well that's how many we found so far. The murderers name is Nick Gregory, that's all we really know." After some convincing I finally agreed to help and he left an envelope with information and clues so far. The hunt was on!
I stayed about an hour later that day to make up for some of my "socializing." When I got home I made my self a bowl of canned soup and began looking over the cases. Elizabeth Jones- 5'7" 127lbs. Found laying dead next to Amanda Baker ring box lodged down his throat, 4th finger on the left hand missing. That's all I could stand for the night, it was 10:48p.m. So I put my bowl in the sink and headed to bed when the phone rang.
"Hello?" I said when I picked up the phone. "Ahh hello Mr. Caraway, I'm glad to see your on board, I really wanted a good challenge it should be fun watching you fail just like the others." As he spoke, I was trying to figure out who it was. "Who is this?" I finally asked. "You will get to know me soon enough," the voice laughed. "And don't worry about your life, I don't plan on taking it yet we just started to play as for Tony Miller... Well that's another story." I couldn't respondstA, as soon as he finished speaking the phone went dead. Who was that? I thought to myself and why bring up Tony? Then the realization hit me... It could have only been one person, Nick Gregory. I had just gotten into bed when I heard multiple police cars speed by sirens blaring.
I heard one of the cars stop near my house and the others continued by. There was a knock at the door and I knew who it was going to be. As I walked towards the door I was debating mentioning the phone call but I decided against it. I opened the door and the officer started talking. "Jim you won't believe what happened! Tony Miller, our investigator on the on going murders by Nick Gregory just got killed!" "What??" I responded already knowing that he would be dead soon. "Yea!" He confirmed. "He was found dead in the park fountain, the captain would like you to come with me to check out the scene" he continued" "Alright, let me get my jacket and tools" as I invited him in and started gathering my things. It was 11:17 now and I was tired as I got in the car to go to the crime scene. I was happy when the officer handed me a cup of coffee so I could stay up. It was a 13minute drive to the park so I started questioning the officer. "What do you know about the murders so far?" I asked. "Not much, only that this psycho seems to like fingers and always keeps one from those he kills." "So I've heard, I've read five cases so far and they all ended that way." By now, we reached the park and we stepped out to a crowd of people already gathered and yellow police tape separating them from the police on scene. "Police clear a path" the officer said, and everyone moved a little as we walked towards the fountain. As we got past the line of officers and up to the fountain, I couldn't believe my eyes.
Update (kinda long) The fountain was red, blood red and the figure impaled on the top just made it even worse. The fountain kept on recirculating the red water, turning it darker as the police and fire department tried to get the body down. I figured I'd be standing around for a while, I went and tries to locate the person who called in the murder. I finally found the woman. She was off to the side crying silently to herself as two men and another woman tried to calm her down. "Hello, I'm Jim Caraway, I'm investigating this murder and I understand you saw what happened?" I questioned as I approached. "Yes" she replied. "I saw the entire thing." " Could you tell me what happened? It helps you forget if you tell someone who you know will put the murderer behind bars." I said as soothingly as possible. "Alright, I was walking though the park on my way home from work when I heard a loud noise above my head. I looked up and saw a helicopter flying really close to the trees, then the next thing I knew it started to hover above the fountain and something fell out. I ran towards it because I was curious, and as soon as i reached the fountain...." "Go on it's alright," I said trying to motivate her to continue. ".... A body.. That body" she pointed towards the body now free from the fountain. "it landed directly on the point and immediately the water turned red and i stumbled backwards falling onto a bench. After a while the helicopter flew away and I called 911." "Thank you for explaining it to me," I said smiling. "I'll find the person who did this." Just as i finished, the office who brought me here came and told me I could now inspect the body and crime scene. As I walked back and started to inspect the body I found a note in the blood stained pocked of Tony Miller, but not the 4th finger on the left hand
