  1. Ah, sweet wifi! France has given me inspiration. 

The next few weeks were good. nothing out of the ordinary happened. Hannah seemed to be settling in well, but showed no intention of leaving any time soon.

I stood in the old kitchen. Abigail had cleared all the dirt and dust away, and was taking a shower. Cassandra was with Hannah, probably just messing around. I had no idea where Arthur was, but to be honest I didn't really care.

I stared at the different ingredients before me, willing them to turn into something edible for our lunch. I had chopped up a few vegetables and planned to make a salad of some sort. But then I remembered I hate salad. Abigail loved it though, so I mutilated some lettuce and tomatoes and plopped them into a bowl with some other things.

It was lucky Cassandra and Abigail had gone to the market this morning, or we wouldn't have anything to eat. I hadn't been back to the forest since I dragged Hannah in, and I wasn't tempted to venture back into that green and brown hell any time soon.

I searched around for other ingredients to make lunch for everyone else. I rummaged through cupboards, examining several of the jars and bottles of pickled things, soups and other foodstuffs. Lucas got in my way several times.

He stood in the middle of the kitchen, absentmindedly fingering one of his knives. A long, gleaming dagger that ended with an extremely sharp point. He seemed to be daydreaming, or thinking. It was starting to annoy me.

"Lucas, can you please play with your pretty little knives somewhere else? You're getting in my way."

He looked at me, seemingly annoyed. The look in his bright green eyes screamed "Oh, so you finally noticed my existence!" Maybe he was still looking for a reaction from the kiss we shared. That felt like such a long time ago. It had been just over a month since it happened.

"Why does it annoy you so much? I'm just standing here." He said, obviously trying to wind me up.

"well, for starters every time I walk past I almost trip over you. I'm trying to make lunch but you keep getting in my way."

"yeah, trying and failing," he said under his breath. Why was he so irritable today?
"I'm going to go and check on cassy." He grumbled.

I watched as Lucas walked away, and carried on making lunch.

After a minute or so of gathering ingredients, I stood still, trying to recall a recipe for beef and carrot stew.

That's when I heard Hannah scream. I bolted up the stairs, wondering what had happened. Did something scare Hannah? What could possibly scare a girl who had lived all her life in the brutal forest?

I dashed into her room, but it took a minute to register what I was seeing.

Cassandra was lying on the floor with two deep gashes in her arm. I hadn't heard her scream. Maybe she couldn't even make a sound as simple as that.

Hannah, still wearing her sunglasses, was leaning against the wall, but at the sight of me she slumped towards the floor. Blood was pouring out of a large wound in her stomach. A small whimper of pain came from her mouth.

And standing in between them, with a look on his face that was in-between anger and panic, was Lucas.
    Holding his dagger.
    Which was drenched in blood.
