I look in the half-broken mirror. Blood ran down the top of my head, I could taste it in my mouth also. Mother had gone on another one of her night-rages. So when I got home she instantly started beating on me. My eyes that were usually just a dull gray that showed no emotion, were now just a grey that showed pain, and darkness. But I could't miss the brown flecks, too me they represented hope. They represented light in the darkness. Hope was the reason I hadn't turned my mother in. Also It was the thing that made me stop when I thought about killing myself. I looked back in the mirror, and watched as tears rolled down my bruised face. Sadly my hope was running away, and darkness was slowly creeping in, wating for the right moment to convince me to jump in the river. I close my eyes and start thinking about other things. I remember what the people at the field were saying today. They were talking about how Sammi had yelled at a man who was asking her to help his sick son. From what I heard Cecile had tried to help the man. I grimaced at this, Sammi was a evil, ruthless person who cared for no one but herself. I grabbed a piece of cloth and wiped the blood from my face. When I was finshed, I went to my small room and huddled in the corner, ready if mother tries to attack me. I then fall asleep. That night I dreamed of something weird, it was about Cecile being the evil, ruthless one.
Drake put a razor blade to his fair skinned wrist, thinking about his bestfriend Cody. He missed him and his antic and over the top ridiculousness. When they were just kids they'd egg houses on halloween. All the good times they had, now there was just no more to make. Drake could remember everything that happened like it was yesterday. It was a warm summer evening, the fireflies lit the sky, the crickets cherpped a tone. Cody and Drake were walking to Cody's house from the movie theater. "Cody?" Drake said. "Do you think we'll be anything like our parents when we're older?" Drake asked. "Well I won't be like my dad because I'm gonna be a rockstar, why would I be a boring lawyer like him?" was Cody's response. Cody always thought of himself to be something big. "You should have a back up if that doesn't work." Drake said. "My back up is being a doctor." Cody said. Drake's ocean colored eyes lit up at the thought of Cody being a doctor, maybe Cody might be a serious doctor and not pranking the sick. "Me too, I want to be a doctor." Drake said. "We could go to the same college and possible the same facility." Cody said. While walking and talking with Cody, Drake dropped his house keys in the street. "Opps, I'll be right back." Drake said. Drake was on his way to pick up his keys when Cody stopped him. "No,No, I got it" Cody insisted. Cody walked to collect the keys for his best pal Drake. Down the street there was a car in motion. Drake didn't think to tell his friend because he thought Cody would move fast. The vehicle seemed to be speeding and Cody seemed to be in slow-motion. As Cody picked up the troublesome keys he notice the car. Cody's emerald locked on Drake's sapphire eyes looking for something, maybe it was his fear or a search for answers. To Drake it felt like time froze and he would witness his friends demise. Time was resumed and the car looked like it was trying to go through Cody. The vehicle didn't go through him and Drake witnessed his best friends last breathe. The driver got out of his car and his face was filled with fear. "I'm so sorry." he said. "Sorry doesn't bring back my friend." Drake said. Drake had tears in his eyes as he stared at his friend's lifeless body. Drake's hand formed a fist and before he could control himself, he attacked the man. Luckily for the man one of the neighbors called the police and they'd stop the besting. The police pulled Drake off of him. Drake lost control. "He killed my best friend!" Drake shouted. Drake was filled with revenge, the man was filled with regret. The police gave the man a Sobriety test and he was drunk. The man was arrested and driven away in the back off the police car. Drake explained everything that happen and had gave the police the address to Cody's Father's house, then was driven home by a policeman. To this day Drake remember's everything and has even had a few dreams about it. Drake looked at the razor blade near his wrist and realized he knew why he did it, it was regret.

Carefully lifting the metal cover off, she squeezed into the opening, inching along the air duct until the passageway widened enough to crawl, Stardust quickly padding along behind her. She tumbled out of the first opening she came to. Her parents' room. Waving away the particles of lint, she glanced around the room. Everything was coated in a fine layer of dust. Estelle and Corey Silvett had been paranoid about robbers, and had always kept their room locked up when they left. No one had entered since their death. Sammi snatched up the first objects that came to hand. Two ceremonial swords, their polished steel blades protected from the dust by jewel encrusted sheaths. The elaborate designs carved into the handle were embellished by equally as impressive gems. Sammi quickly stuffed the swords in her bag and turned to leave. But something caught her eye before she could. A gleaming gold statue rested upon a glass podium, amidst many other magnificent sculptures. Its artistry would not have been noticed among the beauty of the other objects if they were not obscured by the grime. But this small little trinket was the only immaculate thing in the room. Intrigued, Sammi bent down to inspect it more closely. A miniature ocelot stood in a relaxed position, the intricate details carved almost exactly like a real one. Each whisker seemed like it would start twitching any minute. The ears, laying flat against its head, looked like it was about to cock to the side to listen for intruders. The spotted paw was frozen in the act of clawing at the ground. Then she saw why the statue was so clean. A particle of dust floated down towards the ocelot, landing on the tip of its nose. It dissipated as quickly as it landed. A low whine cut cut Sammi's wonderment short. Stardust stared at the her with her amber eyes, almost as if she was begging her to leave. "I'm coming," Sammi promised. She quickly dropped the figurine in her bag where it nestled against the two swords. As she hurried back into the air ducts, neither the girl nor the ocelot noticed. The statue was faintly glowing. •<>•<>•<>•<>•<>•<>•<>•<>•<>•<>•<>•
