Tips for Fan Fictioners

  1. Hey :3 So I've been noticing a lot of newcomers making stories and stuff.

I THINK I made a thread about this a looooooong time ago, but I'm too tired to look for it. We need a search bar (see my thread, Suggestion. Around page 5?)

Anywhoo, here's some tips for you!

    1. Paragraphs. I'll be honest. When I click on a story and it has one long paragraph describe everything, I exit. I don't even bother. So paragraphs helps, when changing topics and when conversations start.

    2. Grammar. I understand that English may not be your first language, but at least try to make your grammar good?

    3. Punctuation. Comas. Periods. Quotation marks. Question marks. The whole package; you need them. If you don't know which goes where, feel free to PM me!

    4. Spelling. I understand little spelling errors but it's like this, not lyk des. What I do when I write is that I turn my autocorrect on. It stays on for me and it helps me ALOT.

    5. Keep the story interesting. I'm not saying to plunge into drama all the time, but keep the story simple, but not boring. Don't drag scenes for too long. Put a building suspense every so often. But don't make it too boring either. Don't give overly dramatic details that the reader doesn't need to know; it will only lead to confusion.

    6. Outline. Please, please, PLEASE don't start with, "Hi, I'm Barbie and I have blond hair and blue eyes and everyone loves me." Seriously. Think of something unique to keep readers going.

    7. Description.

    No:
"The bus stop had a bench."

    Yes:
"The small bus stop had a structure of wood with a plastic bench with chipping white paint in the center of the ark."

    8. Inspiration. Don't ask for: "5 bumps and I'll update!" is that you purpose? To get bumps? I know that we want readers, but really? Writing isn't a popularity game. We feel from the inside, not because we got the number of bumps needed. Once your rushed, then the story has no life into.

    9. Characterize. Be the character.

    10. Bumping. Don't bump your own story if it's in the first page. Please. If we wanted to read it, we would have.

    11. Capitalization. Names, places, starting of sentences. WE NEED CAPITALIZATION.

    12. Title. Don't give us a cheap title like, "the bus stop" first, use capitalization. "The Bus Stop." looks better, makes me what to read more. (I normally read stories with capitalization in their titles. I shows me that the author is serious and ready) you can even add some description! "The Big Blue Bus Stop."

    13. Authenticity. Originality. Never copy someone's stories. Never. Ever. I know it's Fan Fiction and you may want to copy popular stories, but don't copy stories that other people came up with themselves.

    14. Critique This is for the readers. Don't just give us a bump. I love bumps, I really do, but I would like comments and critique better. How would I know you actually read the update? How can the author improve if he/she doesn't know what's wrong? As for the authors, don't lash out at those who do give critique. They just want you to improve. And don't forge readers, that author have their own lives too, and that they might not be able to update 24/7!

    15. (because it's my favorite number)

Don't forget to tune in to stories that are being updated! Authors, a suggestion is to post on your readers walls that your story has been updated! That's what I do!

So yeah, that concludes my thread. I hope this helped, and if you had anything more to add, just comment below! If you have any questions about FF, feel free to PM me or to post in my wall! 
