  1. It's another cloudy night, another scene in this time that I'm still adjusting to. I sometimes wonder, 'What am I doing here in the first place? I don't belong here.' At least the cake here is good. I just finished winning a quick game of cards, thought I would celebrate a little.
"So am I going to go to a better place sir?" A young voice asked me.
I looked down to see her face. I sighed and took her hand. "Yeah, a place you can call home."

I have wondered when I stopped being depressed and moved onto acceptance, or if I'm still floating in that limbo of lost emotions. For right now, I know what my job was here, and I know I'll be done soon.

"Here you go young miss. This is home."
"Will I see you again mister?"
"Maybe, my work down here is not quite done." I gave her a warm smile and watched her walk through that glowing gate.

Hm? How rude of me. My name is Jericho Unmakase, and I guide souls to their afterlife.

  2. I like it

  3. Continue!!! BUMP!!

  4. This is awesome

  5. I heard the gates click behind me. I looked back a little to see her turn and being guided further inside. I continued on my way, knowing that that's not where I'll be going anytime soon.
As my feet hit the pavement, I started wondering how to kill time before going back to where I, apparently, belong. The place of my work. Most people know it as the Afterlife Bumon, or I work in the department of the afterlife, which is just one big piece of the puzzle. "Maybe I'll bring the chief some cake as well... I did make a fuss over a little card game..."
    ~~
"JERICHO!!" I was greeted with an almost deafening yell.
    "I brought you cake."
"Cake doesn't make up for having half the department work double time yo keep the public from noticing YOUR mess!"
"But it's the sweetest I've had so far."
"Jericho, can't you go back to doing your job quietly?"
I leaned against his desk, "Well I would if, you know, the cases didn't come from a family of demons... Sad really no wonder they're so young when you see the monsters they lived with."
"Well excuse me for thinking you can handle it quietly."
"You're excused." I hold out the cake again. "Cake now?"
"Jericho, leave me half, then go fill out your paperwork. I'll have more for you tomorrow." He said as he tried to prevent another headache. He worries so much.
"More cake?" I gave a somewhat goofy grin.
    "Just go!"
"Tut tut, remember what I said about those frow lines!" He then proceeded to push me and half my cake out the door. For a guy who died at a couple of decades older than me, he does look fit enough to do this work himself, but poor chief. Stuck with headache upon headache of work from the higher-ups.
Admittingly though this went better than my first difficult case.
    ~"JERICHO!!"
    "What is it now sir?"
"You know we can't keep up covering up for you, so make sure you don't cause such a mess again. It'll be easier for everyone."
"Well no one bothered to inform me they came from a family of demons!!"
    "Jericho..."
"Look, you even said so, my job is to take the dying, give them peace, and escort them to their gate. Not fighting otherworldly cräp and make sure I don't destroy any property!!"
"Jericho... Just go, I'll have an assignment for you in the morning."~
So I have been doing just that. Find the person close to death, or a wandering soul, make their last moments the best, give them peace, and escort them through a couple of gates. That's how it's been for years until a couple of years ago when I had to throw fighting creatures into the mix. These beings, they're demonic. They're demons who have taken over the hearts of the people around them, sometimes of those who are considered close. Demons whose meals are the very souls. Those who make deals as well. These very beings who now try to stop me from doing my job.

'I honestly wonder why I seem to be the only one with such trouble.'

"It's because they have something planned for ya."

  6. I looked up from my paperwork, "Nice that we can still read each other's minds huh."
"Oh yeah, how else would I be able to start such wonderful conversations about work?"
"And I about your personal life."
"Yeah it's weird how with you it works both ways."
I chuckled a bit. I set aside some paperwork, "So what do you mean by having something planned?" I leaned back in my chair and looked dead at him... Excuse the pun. "You know, since I came here oh so long ago I thought planning was normal. Now I'm just sick of it."
"You get adjusted to it. I mean I fought a couple of those creatures as well, so maybe something is bound to happen..." He started to toss around a pack of cards. "Maybe not."
I had let out a bit of a sigh, "Maybe it's just the chief wanting to yell at me some more." I smirked a bit. That got him to laugh a little. "So up for a round of cards?"
"As long as it's the pack I got from the pharmacy." He laughed and tossed to me the pack he was juggling.
I laughed as well, "Call for a pizza and we have a deal!"

His name is Jacob Kumo, and we have been friends for years. Even though I didn't know him in life, he's a pretty awesome dude, as the kids say nowadays. Apparently he was a model when he was alive, I haven't bothered to check. Eh, by the way the ladies swoon hasn't gotten me to say otherwise.
Jake, some other dead people, and I have our own special abilities. Jake's power is to read a person's mind, if he wanted to, and has, which causes him to get in quite a lot of trouble. However it does help whenever we need to gather information, especially with the reason demonic attacks.
He too is a bit tired of the recent threats to the department and our work, but that hasn't kept us from trying to relax.

I smirked and laid down my hand, "Another tally for me."
"I wonder how you can win almost all the time. I know you don't cheat." He had tapped the side of his head then bit into his slice.
"Well you are the mind reader, you could've looked into my moves easily. Hell you could've known my hand from the get go!" I bit into my slice.
"But that wouldn't be any fun!" He laughed. "And you know I don't cheat."
I laughed as well. Besides our chatter, for once it was very quiet at the office...

But remember, the most devastation happens when it's quiet...

  7. The floor started to shake violently. Jake and I quickly held onto the desk. After a minute or two the shaking stopped. Then there was a crackle sound.
"All Level 5 and higher please report outside immediately!" The sound came from the P.A. System. "Everyone else please return to your work."
"Who in their right mind would go on as if nothing happened?!?"
"Jacob just shut up and head outside."
I snickered at their little arguement.
"You too Jericho. Now move it!"
I stopped smiling then got up, "Let's go Jake."
"Not's so funny when they get you too huh." Jake got up and followed, snickering at me this time.

"Woah!" I exclaimed as i skid to a halt. Right when we got out the door we found out what caused the shaking. The ground in front of the building was all in disarray, as if a meteor had landed, or something really big decided to dig their way through.
"This reeks of foul play." Jake and I caught up with the chief.
"No no, this seems more otherworldly than aviary."
"No time for jokes Jericho. We need you guys to search down this tunnel. We need to know what caused this and we need to know before they think we're defenseless."He then looked at Jake. "Kumo, we need you to stay right here, got two jobs for ya. One, monitor Jericho, he'll feed you the information through your mental powers-"
    "Telepathy."
"As I was saying, and two, we need you to help defend the area. Got it?"
    "Yes sir!"
"And Jericho, we need you to search the tunnel. Report anything you find."
    "Sure Chief."
    "Alright. Good luck."
Chief walked away and he cringed a bit. Before I could say anything, Jake grabbed my shoulder. "Ready buddy?"
I looked down the hole. "Ready." I started to climb down.

It seemed easy to climb because some of the rocks jutted out like stairs. It seemed a bit convenient, maybe this was the work of a digger. It started to feel like I've been travelling down a never ending pit.
    "You found anything yet?"
'Yeah! Just dirt, lots and lots of dirt and rocks.'
"Should I toss down a flash light?"
I thought about it, 'Yeah! But leave it on! It'll act as a marker!'
    "Suit yourself!"
I took out a card from my shirt pocket and placed it on my head. Knowing his aim, I don't wanna get knocked out down here. Soon enough an object flew right in front of my eyes and blinded me a little. 'You could, you know, warn people.'
    "Well excuuuuuuse me princess."
'You watch the internet too much.'
Thankfully there was a low sound of the metal hitting the ground. I looked down to make sure the flashlight didn't break. By the sounds of things i still have a long way to go.

As soon as I got closer to the light, I took a deep breath and jumped for it. "Oh! I'm gonna feel that for the rest of the year." I grunted and regained my balance. I picked up the flash light and looked around. 'Hey Jake! There is definitely a tunnel down here.' I didn't bother waiting for a reply. The tunnel now seemed to extend in the direction towards the building. I shined the light at the walls. Whomever or whatever did this, they did it as if planned.
Then my flashlight gave out. "Yeah, it figures. Explore a freaky cave and the flashlight goes out." I sighed and put the flashlight in my suit. I continued walking anyways.

  8.  Just remember to put spaces between paragraphs. You don't need to I guess..., but in my opinion it looks nicer.

  9. Thanks, I'll make sure to press it twice for paragraphs :3 

    ༺My Student༻

Anyway, I think that more details would fill the piece. It's good, but you need the details and suspense, it shall come in handy.

    Good luck on the story.
