A little girl entered Brighton that day. Such a tiny and minuscule being that I almost laughed.

"This is Sara." the director explained, and I raised an eyebrow at the girl.

"Huh." I said, puzzled. I had been expecting someone...bigger? Rougher-looking? Scary?

"Well, Uh, I'm Li." I said, extending my hand.

"Nice to meet you, Li." Dora -- er, Sara said, shaking my hand.

I immediately looked at the director, sending him a look that said are-you-serious-? He stared back at me and I rolled my eyes.

"Excuse me Sara," I said, making my voice sickly sweet, like how I would talk to a child, "Erm, I need to speak with Mr. Director here for a few moments."

I flashed her a smile before grabbing the director by the elbow and pulling him a few steps away from Sara.

"This," I hissed, my smile dropping, "Is the daughter of THE Mr. Con Man?"

The director looked at me with a amused look, "Don't be surprised, Agent. She is very skilled."

"In case you forgot, Brighton is for mental people, not people who threw a tantrum because they missed an episode of Barney!"

The director's face turned hard and serious, with faint traces of amusement, "Listen Li. What's the saying again? Ah, yes, don't judge a book by its cover."

"Well I do," I snapped, "And if I don't like what I see, then I won't bother reading the book."

He sighed, "Give it a week. I'll be back, and if you still want to replace her, then so be it."

A week of babysitting? No thanks.

"Or are you scared of a challenge?"

I gritted my teeth. He knew my weakness. My weakness was my fragile pride. Any challenge, I accept. Any underestimations on me, I show them whose boss.

    And this was no exception.

    1...2...3...

I twisted the doorknob and stepped inside my room. It was dark, but I could see the outline of the foldable bed that had been stretched out beside my bed. I had gotten half way to my bed when something caught my attention.

"You don't want me to be here," a voice piped up, and my eyes adjusted to the small girl sitting on the bed, with her legs pulled up against her. I immediately felt guarded.

    "N-No. I'm okay with you," I lied.

"Don't lie. I see right through you." she said hauntingly.

"Well, maybe I was expecting someone..." I trailed off, not wanting to finish the sentence.

"Less venerable? Matured? Adult? Take your pick." she shot off.

    Dang, she's feisty.

"Uh.." was all my brain could muster.

"Knew it. Let's just get this week over with so I can leave." she plopped down on her bed and positioned herself facing the wall and avoiding me.

Guilt hit me, and I sighed, my more mature sense kicking in. I couldn't let her be like this, especially not for the whole week.

"Sara..?" I started, creeping over to her bed.

"Don't you mean Dora?" she snapped.

I sighed again, "I'm sorry. I....I may have underestimated you. Give me another chance?"

She flipped over and stared at me for a few seconds, and I guess the maturity kicked in too because after a few moments she gave a huff.

"Fine. And Li? I'm more dangerous that you think." she said.

And for a moment there, her eyes flashed, and I caught a glimpse of the resemblance to the man who had killed my pack.

I heard the swish before I heard it. By the time my eyes had narrowed down to the object, It had firmly wedged itself to the target.

My eyes wide, I gaped at Sara, who was staring at her enclosed dagger with a contented smile on her face. She stood a good distance away from the target. Seeing my shocked expression, she grinned wider and winked at me, "Bullseye."

I blinked, my jaw hanging open.

Take care of her. Teach her. Train her. Treat her as one of your pack.

The director's words pounded in my head. Train her?! How do I, when she is already so darn good?!

"Uh-" I tried to speak, "That was-um-good. Let's head to-erm-lunch?"

She nodded, smirking. She knew I was dumbfounded. And she soaking up every single second of my shock.

We headed over to the canteen, and I looked back once or twice to make sure the shot wasn't a dream. As I pushed the doors open of the canteen, the noise erupted and my attention shifted. The canteen was usually dead silent, but now, it actually seemed like a high school cafeteria.

But Sara didn't mind the noise. She lined up, and I trailed after her. She got mash potatoes and burger steak, and I got carbonara and shrimp. We each got a bottle of water.

I balanced my tray with one hand as I surveyed the room. I usually ate with this silent girl, Nadine, but she was nowhere to be found.

Suddenly, I felt Sara tug at my sleeve.

"Let's sit there; they're gesturing to us." she pointed to a table who was looking at us expectantly.

"Uhm-okay." I followed her to their table.

"Hi. I'm Sara, and this is Li," Sara said confidently, already sliding her tray and taking a seat beside a blond boy. I awkwardly took a seat across her.

There was a chorus of 'hey' and 'hi's then the table went back to ignoring us. But not Sara. She manage to insert herself to every conversation, animating it.

I slowly picked at my food and watched her silently.

"Yeah, I guess that's cool," the bound boy beside Sara said, nodding.

Sara started talking too, using wild hand gestures and different voices. I tried to listen to their conversation, then I got sucked in. The two lovebirds chatted aimlessly as I got sucked into a flashback.

"I love you," he said sincerely, peering at me through his long lashes.

I stood there, speechless. I stuttered for a bit, but I managed to give coherent phrases.

    "Scott...." I said.

He hung his head low, "Go on. Diss me. I can handle it."

I do love him! But how do I tell him that I have a serum in me that gives me extraordinary skills? How do I tell him that I will be going on missions every so often?

    So I stayed quiet.

He took my silence as a reject, and he nodded silently, "Okay. I get it Li." then he started walking away.

I wish I could say I called out to him. I wish I could say I apologized after. But I didn't. I watched him go, go away from me.

And that was the day I swore that I'd never love again.
