Happy Aboriginal Day :]

  1. This is Canada's holiday as far as I know ._. It's pretty sad that I don't really know it myself, so I just googled it ._. I'm a googler. A googly-eyed googler ._. Anyways, onto the explanation ._. :

National Aboriginal Day is a day recognizing and celebrating the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada. The day was first celebrated in 1996, after it was proclaimed that year by then Governor General of Canada Roméo LeBlanc, to be celebrated on June 21 annually. Most provincial jurisdictions, however, do not recognise it as a statutory holiday.

The day of recognition came about after a series of calls for such a celebration. In 1982, the National Indian Brotherhood (now the Assembly of First Nations) called for the creation of a National Aboriginal Solidarity Day to be celebrated on June 21. Slightly more than a decade later in 1995, the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples recommended that a National First Peoples Day be designated. Also in that same year, a national conference of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people chaired by Elijah Harper, titled The Sacred Assembly, called for a national holiday to celebrate the contributions of Aboriginal peoples to Canada. June 21 often coincides with the summer solstice.

National Aboriginal Day is now part of a series of Celebrate Canada days, beginning with National Aboriginal Day and followed by the National Holiday of Quebec on June 24, Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27, and concluding with Canada Day on July 1.

The eagle is sacred to us and is used for the chief's headdress. Signifies importance.

My uncle is chief of my band, Montana band and I'm proud of him :3

    I'm Blackfoot ._.

That's all I have unless you want to know the few words I know in Cree.

And Cree language has no negativity in it whatsoever.

    So... Happy Aboringinal Day :3

  11. When I think aboriginal I think of the ones who are in Australia who were knew to be one of the oldest civilizations and were famous for their art. It's really cool that Canada has a holiday for aboriginal or naive people; I am envious because we do not have a similar holiday here in the US (that I am aware of).

Thank you for sharing this holiday with us! 

  19. As far as I know Aboriginal people were the only ones to live in Canada until everyone else came along and took over.

Maybe there are a different type of Aboriginal people in Australia?
