It hadn't even been a day. A day since my parents died in a car crash on their way home from visiting my grandfather. Family members were immediately over at my house... their voices shouting. There were no sounds of sadness... only anger. The only thing they were fighting about... ...who had to take me in. After a while I finally stood up and looked at them. There was no emotion left in me. I couldn't smile. I couldn't cry. I couldn't do anything to show how I really felt. What did I feel? "I looked after her months ago when her parents went away!" shouted my Aunt Barbara. "Like that means anything! I can't take her in either!" "Just shut up," I said. It was loud enough for everyone to stop. They all looked at me. "Just leave my fucking house," I said and I left the room. A few minutes later there was nothing but silence in the house. I quietly came out of my room and went into the kitchen. Water. I needed water. What was I going to do? I was only fourteen years old... "What... am I going to do...?" I whispered and I turned towards the window. At the corner of my eye I saw some. It startled me and I staggered backwards. "Who... who are you?" I asked as I whipped around. "My name is James Whittaker. I'm your father's cousin. Adoptive cousin," he said. "Why are you here?" I asked. I examined him. He had dark hair like me and had bright blue eyes. He was handsome and had a handsome face. He wore glasses and had an elegant look about him. "Your father helped me when I was younger... I'm here to return the favor," he said and he looked at me. I knew what he meant... and he didn't look either happy or unhappy. Just like me he was emotionless... "So you are going to take me in...?" I asked. He nodded. "I'll be waiting in the car outside," he said and he quietly stood and headed towards the front door. So I was going to be living with my father's cousin... He seemed much to young to be my father's cousin... but maybe he just looked young for his age... I went upstairs and packed everything I wanted into one bag and slowly walked downstairs... To be honest... I wasn't sure which was better... Living with a stranger or death. "Miss." Again I was startled and my head shot up from the ground as I walked out of my house. A man dressed in a nice suit and hat greeted me. I looked beyond him to see a really nice and expensive car in which the James sat. "Um..." "Please hurry Miss. The master has a few other things he needs to attend to." I nodded and walked towards the car. The man in the suit opened the door for me and I went inside and say next to James. I was confused but I wouldn't let it bother me... "Your name is Alexis Whittaker?" asked James as we were driving across the city. Fourteen years old?" I nodded and looked out the window. "So you'd be in grade nine?" I nodded. "Alright." I turned and looked at him. "Why do you want to know?" "I live on the outskirts of Richmond. I'll need to enroll you into a new school. A private school would most likely be best." I looked out the window again and didn't mention anything else. "West Gate is probably the best. I graduated the high school there in 2002," he said quietly. 2002? My assumption was right. He was young... He must be twenty-four... or younger. "Anyways we should be arriving soon. I have a room prepared so you don't have to worry about anything..." he said and he looked out his own window. I nodded though I knew he wouldn't see. I felt miserable... Death. I would definitely choose death over this....
