The heat was intense. Heat waves lined my vision, distorting the repetitive landscape of yellow sand. I gazed out my window, thinking of what Matt could be doing right now. I sighed. Matt. He could be anywhere now, whoever he was. All I knew that he was somehow connected to me and my story, and he could be anyone and possibly, anything around me right now. I looked down on Kyrie, who was fiddling with her miniature doll. "Where'ja get that?" I rasped. "Oh, remember that old tent we passed by a few weeks ago? There's an old woman living there and her husband and they gave it to me," she said in her tiny voice, and put the doll on her palm for me to see. "She looks wonderful." I smiled. "What's her name?" "The old lady says her name is Matryoshka. She made it for her daughter. But her daughter's gone now. She says she went for a trip to London eight years ago." She smiled at me. "Reaaaally long, right Selene? I wish we could go for a trip to Lon-don. I think it would be fun." Oh, Kyrie, my little sister. How I wish I could. I would, for you. I will. This I promise.
