Recently, moderators have had a little trouble with fan fiction and the increasing number of rules being broken within threads. Now, Cookie made a very good stand on that and you were all warned that he would lock threads permanently if you didn't listen to him. I just finished reading through a thread complaining about how the fan fiction section currently is. So let me in my polite charming way, say my peace. Half of you are the some of the most pompous ignorant people I have ever met on PimD. You're not worthy of any sort of title, you're not gold dust and you're certainly not the best writers anyone has ever seen. There's only one story that has ever grabbed my attention on FF and if I'm honest the rest are mediocre. Everyone is welcome to FF and I mean everyone. I don't give a damn if you're a year old or one hour old. This is an international game for ALL players. If FF was so highly important as some of you deluded people think, there would be a restriction to get into it. I.e, you must be such and such PimD days old. Role plays are part of fan fiction, so before I start hearing about how there should be a section for that but the developers don't care enough - bullcrap. I had a long conversation with my manager about a role play section before we came to the agreement it was best to keep FF and role plays together. If you don't like it, whose forcing you to read it? As for - 'we've been here longer so have more rights', again - bullcrap. Get off your high horse and bring your head back down to level ground. You're all players with creative imaginations, all equal. So you've been here longer and made a few successful stories, since when does that title you FF God? Are we going to start a committee next of whose high chair person and whose the lowly peasants? I don't think so. Anyone has as much right to FF as the next person, no matter how good or bad your stories may be. Any good writer will tell you they got to where they are through experience. Jacqueline Wilson would right scraps of ideas on random bits of paper and sometimes leave them unfinished but they still exercised her imagination. So if a new player comes and makes several stories and doesn't finish them, so what? Last time I checked that wasn't a sin. To any new players that at this present moment and time feel unwelcome here, because I know I would if I was new, I encourage you to write as much as you please. As long as you stay within ToU guidelines there are no other rules here. Excessive trolling or flaming of another player is also now against rules so if I catch any of you 'superior older players' giving a new player a hard time because of something they wrote, I will silence you and take action. Don't think you run this place because I assure all of you, none of you do. If any player has trouble on FF please feel free to wall me and I will deal swiftly with the situation. To the rest of you - get the hell over yourselves. I'm sickened by the way some of you are acting towards new players entering are community. You do not have the right to tell them how to do anything. Thanks. =)
I agree. The thread I made was out of the heat of the moment. Darkrose, please read my most recent post on my "OMG" thread. Listen, I'm just saying that the older ones know the ropes and we are willing to help, but they are regarding us with little respect. In FF, we try to treat each other all with respect, but the new ones seem to not want to accept it. As for the role plays, I knew they were part of FF... It's just gets people worked up because there are some stories people pour their hearts and souls in that don't get recognized at all because of the role plays. We have found a solution and it's better for now.
I agree with the older players and the newer players part. It's just stupid that others think so highly of themselves. We were all noobs.
Newb means new person. It doesn't mean anything offensive. I know this is partly aimed at me because of the thread that I made, butlike I said, please read my most recent post on it. I haven't treated any new writers badly. If anything, it's the other way around and they do have the same rights as us.
Honestly your thread is what sparked this one Goddess because you and the other FF'ers seem to be a little above your station. If you try to help a player, and they don't want to listen, then who cares? Let them do as they please. If it becomes a problem along ToU lines then you know where to find me. If the player is willing for a little advice, that does not make you better or more experienced than them, it just means you're sharing a little knowledge. But don't ruin it by appearing pompous about doing so.
I prefer not to get involved with arguments of FF, it just takes up space and never normally makes the situation any better
Darkrose: I know I acted that way. I didn't spark this though. Everybody already felt this way and if you have read the posts on my thread, you would know that many were about to say the same thing. Every time there is a little conflict, there is a thread about it. That's how FF grows and that's how we learn to deal with each other. The thread was out of the heat of the moment. I have had emotional outbursts lately and I took it out of FF. I know I have to control myself and it was immature. FF has been very... delicate lately if you haven't noticed. By the way, I didn't regard myself as pompous. I was just stating that there is such thing as seniority here because there is. Not because we are conceited but because we have been here longer and we know the ropes. I know it sounds narcissistic, but it's a fact. Oh, and I know we're all wondering: what's that one story that stood out to you? Everyone: Let's let this die like all arguments do.
I said you sparked this thread being made Goddess, not the situation. And you made yourself seem incredibly pompous when one player pointed out to you that you didn't have more rights than new comers and you replied 'Actually I do'. Actually, you don't. There may be an unspoken rule of whose older and all that jazz but that does not mean any of you have some secret authority. You're all players. Simple as.
Actually my apologies, what was said was new players have the same rights as you. You replied that they didn't. Same thing, other way around. Still a load of crap.
sugar plum: THEY ARE NOT BAD! They are fantastic! Truly! They are! Darkrose: Like I said, I am not good at wording things and when I said they don't I didn't exactly mean it in they way. I apologize for that. I was referring to the unspoken jazz. Ugh... I really suck at that.
Either way, I don't exactly have to be explaining this to you, so I don't know why I am... The only people that need to know what I actually meant are me and the newbs. No one else. Sorry for wasting both of our time.
I will admit to doing what Rose is complaining about, and I truly see now that I acted like a massive jerk, I'll stop doing that.
You do need to explain it when it becomes an issue, Goddess. Moderators are here to silence but also to keep the community happy. And with our new rules in place forums is a lot more stricter and we appreciate if players keep it at a happy atmosphere. So, with that said, I'm expecting to see a change with how you all treat one another. If there's not a change, then I guess we will have to chat again. And yes, I will lock the thread.
One last thing Darkrose: For the record, I haven't treated any one person badly on PIMD EVER unless in extreme cases. I hope you know that.
