I was wandering past a cherry tree late last afternoon. I couldn't help but think of you... How you would've enjoyed seeing it. It makes my hearts stir just thinking about it. How are you? How is school? I hope everything is fine with you, my dear. I hope one day soon we'll finally meet... I love you, my dear fiancé... Joshua Lancemen I held the letter close and looked out the window. "I wish I could meet you... my dear fiancé..." she whispered. "Rose-Lee!" I sprang up from my bed and quickly ran downstairs. "Yes mother?" "You will come with your father and I to a party tonight." "A party?" "The hostess is Miss Gordon and her new beau. Many people will be there, and I know you will have fun." "Fun? I never have fun at these sort of gatherings, mother," I said quietly and I looked out the window. "I'd rather not go..." "Come on Rose-Lee. Will and James will be there!" she said trying to convince me. I scoffed. Will and James? Sure I grew up with them, but they were boys and I rarely saw them now, although they attended many of the aristocratic parties I was usually dragged to. I was fourteen, Will was seventeen and James was sixteen. I was close to Will... We did talk regularly. "So will you come?" "Fine. Only if we can leave earlier... Like before midnight..." "As you wish. Do not worry, it'll be fine. Besides, you need to make yourself come into society more." "What for?" "I don't know... To meet a man," she said and she shrugged. "To start dating," she looked at her watch. "Mother... I have a fiancé..." I said softly. "Yes I know that. But you won't be getting married to Joshua for a long time, darling. You still have all that time in between! That's how it was with your father and I! We both dated people although we were set to marry as well." "I just don't think it's a good idea... What if you fall in love with someone...?" "Well then it'll be hard to come to your senses and fall out of love. I know this from personal experience. Besides, you could end up falling in love with your husband. I love your father dearly... And he feels the same. It takes time Rose-Lee." "I doubt I'll date anyone though..." "Why not? Joshua is probably dating someone right now. He is eighteen, he's probably has a nice..." "He doesn't." "What?" I looked at her. "Joshua doesn't have anyone he's seeing." "How do you know?" "Because he told me he hasn't. He told me he hasn't found anyone to his liking or anyone interesting," I said quietly. "I believe him." "When has he told you? In those silly letters he sends you?" she asked and she raised an eyebrow. "They're not silly! And yes..." She smiled. "Well then, I must be mistaken," she said and she smiled at me and left the room. I sighed. I somewhat felt angered at what she said. What if Joshua really did have someone he loved... I felt jealous. Even if I had never met him... I felt as if I already loved him.
