I was put on an IV for two days and then they had to stitch my hand since I got about five pieces of glass in it. "So we are going to put you sleep so we can stitch your hand," said the nurse. "No." "No?" "No, I'd like to be awake." "How come Alex," said Ryan. "I just want to be awake." "Well okay not a problem we just have to give you numbing medicine..." and the nurse went on about the procedure. I looked at my brother who had his arms crossed with eye brows raised. I gave him look that said "trust me." "Right this way Alex, sorry Ryan you are going to have to stay." I got up and followed the nurse down the hall ways of the hospital. We went into a room where the doctor was waiting. "Hello, Alex," he said without turning. "Uh hi doctor uh?" "Hammond." I froze. Hammond? That was Caleb's last name. "Um is your son Caleb Hammond?" "Yes he's a sophomore in high school do you know him?" "Yes I'm a freshman." "Oh that's good." He finally turned and I saw the resemblance. They had the same jaw, nose, and hair color, the eyes were different. "So what's my problem?" "Well," he started looking at papers, "You got many cuts from the glass, especially on your hand since you raised it to your face during the crash." I remember that. "You have minor damage on three of your right ribs, you have a few cuts on your face and legs." Okay not so bad. "And that's about it." "How long till I can leave the hospital?" "A few days, about three." "How come?" "We need to take x-rays on your ribs just to confirm nothing major." "Okay what about my brother Jared?" "Nothing at all." "Nothing?" "Nope, according to Caleb, you covered Jared in the collusion." It all flashed. As soon as I picked up Jared I turned slightly to cover him away from the car. I remember raising my hand to my face and then the car crashed. "So today we are stitching your hand." I nodded. "The nurse tells me you'd like to do it awake?" "Yes." "And why is that," he said as he turned to set down and papers and get the needle ready. "I just want to be awake." He turned back and put some numbing ointment on the cut the next thing he said inspired me, "Well you know what they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right?"
Caleb's POV I was waiting outside the room where Alex was getting her x-rays. I was getting nervous on what she was about to tell me. Either good or bad news. I heard the door open and I got up from leaning on the wall. I saw my dad coming out of the room. "Hey dad how is she?" "Oh hey son, listen I'm busy today so why don't you go in there yourself and ask her, I'll see you later." I nodded and braced myself before opening the door. Once I opened it I saw Alex sitting on a table. The lights were dim, the only bright light was coming from the one mounted on the wall with the x-ray sheets stuck to it. She was looking at them and then turned her head with a beautiful smile on her face. Her wavy brown hair flipping as her head turned. "Hey," she said. I closed the door, "How are you?" "Great, just a small crack in one of my ribs, they are going to put me on meds for the pain and I can leave the hospital tomorrow." "Good, I'd like to see you at school again," I said rather nervously. "Yeah me too." I fidgeted in my pocket and pulled out her love knot ring. "My ring!" "Yeah it fell off in the crash, want me to put it on?" "Yes please," she extended her right hand and I started putting it on her ring finger when she said, "Oh I like it on my index finger." "How come?" "Not sure, I like the way it looks there." I slowly put it on her index finger, when finally I looked up and said, "Alex, will you be my girl friend?"

"So I'm practically fine?" "Yes we are going to give some prescription medicine that you take once a day for twelve days okay?" "Okay, oh and when I can leave the hospital?" "Tomorrow." "Really?" "Yeah so you should go back to your room." "Mind if I stay here and look at my x-rays?" "Sure I don't think it's a problem." "Thanks," I said and I sat on the table looking at my x-rays. Really I just wanted a moment away from people. I heard the door open, I turned my head to see Caleb. I smiled big. "Hey." He closed the door and said, "How are you?" "Great, just a small crack in one of my ribs they are going to put me on meds for the pain and I can leave the hospital tomorrow." "Good, I'd like to see you at school again," he said some what nervously. I was wondering what the problem was, he seemed worried. "Yeah me too." He reached down to his pocket and pulled out something. "My ring!" "Yeah it fell off in the crash, want me to put it on?" "Yes please," I extended my right hand slowly. He started putting it on my ring finger when I said, "Oh I like it on my index finger." "How come," he wasn't looking up. Something was definitely wrong. "Not sure, I just like the way it looks there." He slowly put the ring on my finger. I was about to ask if something was wrong when, "Alex will you be my girl friend?"

Brandon's POV I was holding on tightly to the flowers for Alex. I thought about the card I put into the flowers. Maybe this was a bad idea. I kept walking, telling myself to give it a shot. I turned the last corner to the hallway where most of the x-ray rooms were. 13... 14... 15... Ah 15! I put my hand on the knob and bit my lip. I opened the door with a smile on my face only to find disappointment. Caleb was there. And he beat me to the punch. "Alex, will you be my girlfriend," asked Caleb. I turned and started walking away quickly. I didn't even want to hear the answer because I already knew what it was. I stuffed the flowers in the trash angrily and went to the cafetiria. I needed to talk to her.
