I've contemplated writing a piece for a while with a little push from emiko and brother Matt. So here it goes. Some people play purely for pleasure, some play as they are competitive naturally, others because its an escape. I think WoW would be the best example of this, creating an avatar thats completely fantasy based so it has no reference to the human anatomy that way the player never feels depressed if their avatar is thin and they are fat, or their avatar is muscular and they are weedy. Just like pimd avatars used to describe what you want to be and/or just to hold more power over someone. Also speaking to virtual friends they never have to know you, they wont judge you as a person in the street would, you can be whoever you make yourself out to be. No one knows what you look like, who you really are, you can be anyone you want and the same goes for the person on the other end. The person on the other end of the idevice can be someone completely different from who they say they are. I'd say one of the key reasons people use virtual worlds is to become someone that they're not. They may portray themselves as confident behind an online persona when in actual fact they don't have that sort of confidence in the real world. Alternatively, the way someone is might not be accepted in social terms and their virtual world may allow them to be this person without any criticism, for some people its a chance to not be the loner or geek and be a part of something where everyones interests are the same. You must remember its all virtual and people may not seem to be who they say they are. Don't eat up everything the person says, don't jump into something that might get you and maybe others hurt. If you think it's too good to be true then it probably is. Most people have two "worlds"and keep them both separate but there is also a lot of people who combine both real and virtual worlds and keep the same "identity". For those who choose a different persona just remember there is a person on the other end who's life isn't perfect, don't play with their emotions for your own pleasure. Go get a freaking life for god sake, it isn't that hard. For those who are true and keep the same persona, good job. You don't need to be someone you're not, who cares what people think, be who you are not someone you aren't. Well that's all for now, I thank you for your time and ask to keep your stupid comments to yourself because you people are the ones that this is written for
Amazing Kone So very true and beautifully written. I have often considered myself too real for Pimd because i have fallen victim many a time to the lies and falseness of some people on here. Some hide behind a screen and build ego's, get off on putting others down, when really they are using this game as a tool because of their own insecurities. I'm proud you had the courage to do this, and i hope it gets some people thinking... Cheers to the real people who aren't scared to be themselves, imperfections and all Love ya Kone
To me, this isn't just a game but a social platform for players to interact with each other. This is the primary allure of PIMD to me. I am sure many will agree with me too. Like an article of mine titled Who's That Behind The Avatar? hidden amongst thousands of other threads under "Other PIMD Discussions", though this is just a game, behind each avatar is a living breathing human being with feelings and emotions. But like you said, there's life outside of the game too. Some players are but a fleeting breeze that comes and goes. If too much emotions are invested in it, one might get burned while crossing the bridge of relationships. There is a very fine line between reality and virtual reality. Both seems very real to many. But we players need to be able to discern the differences. But then again, there is the issue of role-playing (very different from sext, mind you). They seek escapism from reality by being another person on any MMORPG including Party In My Dorm. A part of their creativity process. To me, there's nothing wrong with them as long as they do go out to socialize in person. Wow. This long comment could be an article on its own if I continue any longer. Haha! Finally koneybaby!!! You wrote something!!! Next article, more PARAGRAPHS please! Hard to read like this! Yours Truly, Brother_Matt Chill! Have a Bento Set!
