  1. Chapter one: Tom Hanks
It's never a good time to tell your daughter, whose finally came to terms with living in Hicksville, NC, she's moving. Especially when that girl is holding two cartons of milk and is in high heels. In the middle of walmart.

I squint my eyes and look up at the brick spires of the factory. White chipped paint depicts that a name was once painted on them. Trash and broken windows poorly boarded up guarantee it's long abandoned. "Well it's no forest but it'll do," I mutter stroking behind Maxx's ears and looking around under the winter Texas sun.

Even in jeans and a tank top I'm a bit warm here. Slowly I start to pry off a few boards that can easily placed back and taken down. "Aren't you the new chick," a voice free of the deep southern drawl asks.

"No I'm the old one," I say turning around with my arms crossed. Even if the boy escaped the drawl he didn't escape the tanned skin and odd choice of clothing. Even in the heat he was wearing jeans, cowboy boots, and a plaid shirt unbuttoned.

"Ah, so your snarky too," his glittering eyes examine me as he sticks his hand out. "The name's Hank."

    I shake his, "Mine's Adriee."

    "Nice to meet you."

"Wish I could say the same," I turn back to the door and prying off the doors.

"Do you want help? Everyone just climbs in through the chimney. There's a ladder."

    "I prefer solitude."

    "Are you a monk?"

I turn back around throwing my arms out, "do I LOOK like a monk?!"

Hank throws his hands up as well to cover his face in case I swing my hammer, "it was a joke..."

I smile tossing my hair,"Sorry I don't really wanna be here."
