SOPA/PIPA: Every Voice Counts Hey all, it's BunanzaTheBunny. As you most likely know, the USA is on the verge of deciding the outcome of two bills: SOPA and PIPA. SOPA: Stop Online Piracy Act PIPA: Protect I P A What SOPA will do is stop the ability to view movies, watch TV shows, listen to music, and similar stuff- online. This means sites like : YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, and others will be inaccessible in America. Posting lyrics, or singing a song and posting it would count as stealing intellectual property and you can be SUED. What the PIPA will do is make sites hosted outside of America to be FORCED to remove content that goes against the bill, or not be accessible to America. This means Google would have to filter out EVERY bit of content that goes against the bill. This means links to other sites cannot be provided. The bill was original introduced to the US congress in the October of 2011, though a similar bill was introduced in March of 2010, but was killed. Various companies and organizations has gone against this, like Google and Wikipedia. On January 18, both sites (and more) blacked out their sites for 24 hours. Now, this is all very stupid with just the above, but there's also a very shady history behind it. Did you know that the big companies that were agreeing with Congress to pass the bill were also the ones SUPPLYING THE INFRINGING GOODS? Yep. The biggest one of these sites is Cnet, a popular site for downloading programs. These programs included programs that aided you in/allowed you to view copyrighted content. Not only did they do this, but partner sites of their's distributed music. Similar to programs like Limewire, these sites allowed you to search an artist or song, and download the music- for free. Proxy servers won't work either. This is because the bill will cause all companies PROVIDING internet service to filter their in/out connections, so any unidentified server will not be allowed. Pretty much all of America is against this bill. Petitions have been set up the biggest of these being Google google.com/takeaction. Not only are there these petitions, but you can call your representatives, or mail them. This will largely encourage them to vote these to be killed. Personally, I don't think this will go through. It's way too risky. If it does go through, then they'll be hell to pay.
It could potentially effect other countries, since the sites hosting the content would have to remove the infringing content And then we wonder why everyone hates Americans... -BunanzaTheBunny
I believe that SOPA AND PIPA should go away. It's not fair to the people who will be affected by their stupidity.
Websites that allow/aid/enable users to share files that are under copyrights can be sued. When they are sued, advertising companies will no longer be allowed to work with them. With insufficient funds to run the website (especially ones as huge as YouTube and Facebook), it's highly possible they could be removed from the Internet altogether. So yes, the bill will probably affect other countries if it is passed.
If SOPA passes, we will break things -Lulzsec And me and some other Anons already agreed to declare war againsts America if it passes... So...
That's not fair. Internet is like the most important thing right now... But I can see then taking it all away. Cause I mean people can get addicted and be lazy like all the time and stuff.... Also, how are we suppose to actually be doing something instead of like eating junk 24/7 365/12 and how are we suppose to explore and see how things work?? (on YouTube) I think this is not fair at all but the other way can be a tiny bit better. (But once there addicted its totally there fault). My whole opinion about this is, when u have kids they won't experience this and won't get to see how things work..... I've think I have said enough Peace
Doesn't are government think anymore? don't they know how many people they will piss off and how much damage will be done
"They want to use this bill because we americans are waking up faster and faster to our government corruption, and the only way they can stop us from passing the message to each other is by the internet. 12/21/2012 really isnt the end date to the world, but the end date of america. We are welcoming the New World Order and they will become apparent by that day is what they mean. All these bills that they are making are apart of the new world order(forcing you to live a life you dont want to life)" Dr. Mike Myers 2011 Dec. link breaks TOU
Canadians can create websites, yes... In fact the whole world can create websites But they can't duplicate everything that will be lost if YouTube/Facebook/Twitter or any other major website goes down. But hopefully this bill doesn't pass. The US does know that if SOPA is passed, the majority of the world will hate them, right?
