(This is a story based on my life. I think about it every day, and every day I wish it would go away, but it never does..)
It was my first day of first grade. I walked into my school, and took a seat on the bleachers, waiting on other buses to drop off more kids. I sat surrounded by the sound of elementry and middle school kids, greeting old friends and saying bye to thief parents. My friend Sara came and sat with me, talking about her Barbie backpack. Suddenly, a new kid, his older brother and thier father walked in. They sat just up one bleacher above me. I noticed the blonde boy, who looked slightly older than me. He looked around and began chatting with his brother. I looked away, blushing. The bell rang and I walked into the first grader line, led by Mrs.Buckner. I saw my best friend Amber run to me, and she hugged me. "I like your hair, Jenna." She said fluffing my long brown hair. I laughed as the line walked down the stairs to our room. I looked around as I sat in my seat. I saw the new kid. It was the younger one. He sat behind me. His name was Shaun Mathews. I smiled and turned to greet him. He said they had moved from West Virginia into Raliegh, North Carolina, which was my school. I was too shy to ask about his brother, so I turned and went back to my own buisness. After school, I walked out to my bus, and looked for my brother. I saw him walking to me, with the blonde boy at his side, laughing and saying goodbye. He must be a third grader like my brother, I thought. I got nervous and turned away, but the two departed, and My brother, Stevie, jerked me onto the bus. I looked out my window, and watched the mysterious blonde boy, get into a car and drive away. Should I continue?
A few months passed in school and my daily schedule stayed the same. Wake up. Attend school. Come home. Do homework. Eat dinner. Go to bed. That is, until a certain Friday in September. I came home from school, ready for the weekend. My mom hadn't met my brother and I at the bus stop, so she had to have been on the phone, I pondered. "Yes. Oh we'd be glad to have him! Yes! Okay... See you soon... Bye" My mom hung up the phone and told my brother and I to go to the car. "Are we picking up Ryan? Did his mom say yes!?" Stevie said excitedly. "Yes, we are getting him at Pullers Grocery." Mom smiled. "Yayyyyy!" My brother yelled. I shrunk into my seat, not knowing who this "Ryan" was, and feeling nervous. We pulled into Pullers and parked beside a burgundy SUV. A chubby woman with Curly hair hopped out and walked over to my car. My mom and brother got out and began speaking to her. Suddenly, the back door slid open, and the blonde headed boy stepped out... "That must be him," I gasped. They all talked outside for a while and Stevie got in the front seat. Oh no!!! I thought, he'll be sitting with me?!? Then my door opened and I quickly scooted over, as Ryan sat down beside me. He looked at me, then began talking to my mom as he rocked forward and back in his seat laughing. This is going to be a long night, I thought.
I walked to my room and picked up the remote, turning on All That, watching Kenan speak French. I laughed and moved over in my bed and put a few blankets over my lap. I heard furious laughter radiating from the room across the hall. My heart thudded a small bit, and I ignored the sounds across the hall. I knew I was more than crazy for liking him, he was two years older and waaayyyy cute. I couldn't ever cross his mind.. It grew late at night and I decided to go to brush my teeth. Ironicly, Ryan was in there, cleaning his glasses. I smiled and ignored him, until he tapped my shoulder. "Do you wanna play Monopoly with your brother and I?" "Uhhh... I guess so." I was rather stunned. I looked over to him and smiled. And so the games began.. I was the little puppy figurine and Ryan was the ship. My brother, picked the moneybags, of course. We all laughed and made faces at eachother. It was truly fun, until my brother won and left Ryan and I to clean up , because "the loosers have to pick everything up!!" I sat awkwardly and picked up mystery cards and watched him secretly. "Jenna, do you wanna play Sonic with us???" He smiled. "Its past her bedtime. Bye Jenna !" My brother called. I was slightly embarrased by this but eventually got over it. "Okay then... I'll see ya..." He walked off slowly. I fell to my bed and layed there for hours.I was chasing something that wasn't even in my league. I heard them yelling commands to eachother, and laughing really loud. I slowly fell into sleep, thinking of him... He left early the next morning for drum practice. I missed him oddly, but allowed the day to pass without thinking of him too much. Monday at school, I hung out with Sara at lunch. I looked at Ryans table, to see which color seat he sat on. Blue. I sat down in a blue seat aswell. Lame, I know. But being a kid, I had silly ideas. And so became my routine at school. To watch him and do everything he did. Secretly of course. I learned his locker number was 124, the very last one in the hallway, and his favorite number was 25, his basketball number. His favorite icecream was strawberry crunch, and his favorite color was pink, because no other guy would pick it. This activity continued for a long time. It was my sixth grade year, and he was revisiting the house. His glasses were gone and he was more masculine, being an 8th grader. He came into my room later that night, and after years of flirting on every visit, he asked me. "Jenna, do you like me?" I really miss this guy... Epic sadness.
