Uncommon habits?

  1. Have you ever done something (or used to do something) that you thought only you did, but later on in life realize other people do/did it too?

    Few personal examples

When I was younger (and I mean from when I was like 10yrs till up to like 4 years ago), whenever I got a mosquito bite, I would push down with my nails and make an X (or a cross) on the bite, kinda like this[IMG]

And I thought I was the only one, up until last year when I came across a Facebook post asking others "anyone else do this?" And had hundreds of thousands of reacts and comments saying "OMG I DO THIS TOO" and I was like WHAT???? cause it's so random and weird you'd figure you're the only one that does it.

Another one is when I'm taking a dump and I hear loud stomps and stuff around the house I'm thinking "oh fuck man my family is being murdered and I'm gonna have to fight this intruder buck ass naked" or "this mf'er is gonna shoot me thru the door and I'm gonna be in the news like "this dude died on the toilet" and it's gonna be so embarrassing

Another one when I was younger is I'd be taking a shower and shampooing my hair, and when I'd rinse off I would close my eyes (obviously) but try to squint to the point where I could see a little because I was scared that if I closed my eyes and then opened them after washing the shampoo off, there'd be a demon or something standing right in front of me

Another one (and I still do this out of habit sometimes) is when I'm sleeping, I will tuck the sheets under my feet so they're not hanging outside the sheets where a monster will grab them lol.

Anyway, what are some of your habits that you think are unique to yourself? Let's see if anyone else does them.

Do you do any of the ones I mentioned?

  2. I have to sleep with the bedroom door closed. I can't fall asleep if it's open.

  3. Why's that?
I prefer to sleep with my door open because that way my dogs can come and go and there's more air flow lol. I don't sleep with it closed anymore, primarily because my dogs will scratch at it for 10-15 minutes

  4. Ooo I'm the opposite @Muschi

I have to sleep with the door open. I actually don't even have a door to my bedroom/living area at the moment 😂

I chew my tongue. This has been a bad nervous tick for when I'm concentrating and I've actually never heard of anyone else who does it so i will be interested to see if anyone can relate to this.

I have to tuck the blankets under my chin when i sleep, i do my feet sometimes but it's not as consistent or common as my chin

  5. I played Silent Hill 2 on PS2 with my dad when I was a kid and I was afraid of Pyramid Head and the creeper things walking down the hallway to my bedroom. If I had the door closed, they weren't able to come in. Now I just can't sleep without it closed. I think it just makes my room darker and quieter, and I got so used to it.

  6. I've never heard of the tongue chew lol that's interesting.

I used to always sleep on my side and cover my open ear with the covers to prevent any spiders from crawling in, no matter how hot it was. But it's been like 10 or so years since I've done that lol

  7. Hah, yeah I can relate to that lol, really after any scary movie. It does make it much quieter though

  8. Oh yes, the pesky ear bugs. I've always been paranoid about those but never had a habit relating to them

  9. I do have a ceiling fan in my room that I always have on for ambience and air flow, and during the summers I have a window fan as well. Also, Scout (and Holly before she passed away) sleep in my room every night. Scout will go to my room when he's tired for the night (usually around 9:30ish) and I'll come up when I'm tired and close the door. Holly used to stay up with me until I went to bed, even if it meant her sleeping by my feet in the living room until I stood up to go upstairs (upon which she would awaken and go up and get in her bed and go back to sleep).

  10. I do all of these except the feet and the shower.

I used to yank out strands of hair when I was stressed. Turns out that's like a disorder or something (which I never got treated for, I just quit) but apparently lots of other ppl do it

  11. That's adorable tbh

  12. I do the skin-picking one, dermatillomania. The hair one is tricho-something-mania. I've gotten better at it but I still have a habit of picking off scabs a bunch of times before wounds will finally heal.

  13. Even the mosquito bite thing??

Oooo, that's interesting. which reminds me, when I was like 6 or so I used to like, pull on my eyelashes. Not hard but they came off pretty easily. Idky I did that but it seems similar to your hair yanks

  14. I knoooooow. I miss Holly staying up and hanging out with me tbh. I think Scout tried to do it for a while after she passed away, but I think he doesn't like how late I stay up sometimes and just kind of gave up. His bed in my bedroom > his bed in the living room or basement (even though they're the same type).

  15. I pick off scabs when the skins's almost healed or fully healed. If I start to peel it and I see pink, I stop

  16. Probably because your bedroom is more like, familiar

  17. I'll pick it even if it starts bleeding a bunch again. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it, but like I said I've gotten a lot better at managing it especially since I've gotten a better grasp over my anxiety.
Makes sense. I have a hard time sleeping in unfamiliar rooms, like hotels. I appreciated him trying to fill in for Holly girl though.

Speaking of habits and Scout though, recently he started walking backwards slowly instead of just turning around. I have no idea why. He's kind of in the early stages of canine dementia, I think, so I'm not sure if it has to do with that. It's a little funny and a little sad.

  18. Takes me ages to open my eyes after I close them to shampoo. Physically have to pry them opem. I guess I was afraid of getting shampoo in my eye but it's ridiculous.

When I was young I was afraid of the dark so the door had to be open, then it slowly closed, and now I prefer it to be closed. When we had pets they slept outside and never with us. Both of my parents keep the door closed. That's what bedroom doors are for.

The x is an old habit that I still do if the itch gets too much but I prefer to put cold water on bites

I kept away from horror movies as a kid, but the spy looking through the windows to see your internet password, the intruder in the house when you get back home, and burglars in the night are obvious fears to me that I react to. Calling out "I know you're in here", and casing the house out when you're the only one arriving back home.

Idk. Don't take pride in knowing others do those things. We all have reasons to have those habits.

One thing that interests me is what order you keep thr cutlery in.

    Spoon > Fork > Knife
seems to be the most common one in my experience.

But some people do it differently and I wonder where it comes from.

  19. A picture of the order I keep my cutlery in

Everyone who visits and sees this thinks I'm a monster but I just shove stuff in wherever they fit

  20. Fork > salad fork > Large spoons > small spoons > knives
