I know a lot of people wanted Madeline Petsch or Zendaya but I donât think either of them can sing that well..
Y'all do realise y'all getting upset over the ethnicity of a mermaid? If your argument is "what if they did the same to Tiana or Moana or Mulan, Pocahontas" etc then you need to put that tired argument back where you found it because their race, ethnicity and culture play a vital role in their stories. The little mermaid could have been the same colour as Shrek for all it's worth and it would make a 0.00% difference to the story. The only valid argument against this is that Disney is butchering these movies with their awful, trashy remakes and need to leave them where they lie, and that's the end of it. There's absolutely no reason for this movie to exist. I mean idk how they managed to make a movie with Donald Glover, James Earl Jones and BEYONCE bad but hey Lion King is a flop so there you have it. This concludes my Ted Talk ty for joining us.
Well shĂt, bet cha didnt complain when the prince didnt marry Ariel in the original Little Mermaid did ya? Or when she dies in the original story did ya? Did you prefer the REMAKE that Disney did to make you feel all safe and cuddly on the inside? koo, then stop complaining about a live action REMAKE (there's that word again, see it?) regarding a writing of FICTION with a MYTHICAL creature with NO ETHNICITY.
I really hope you're a chick coz I'm falling in love. But if you're not, I mean, dont knock it till you try it right
If you think about it, Disney's version of The Little Mermaid was set in the Caribbean ocean and even had Caribbean aspects in the movie such as the architecture and song styles so it's kind of shocking Disney got away with making Ariel Caucasian despite all the Caribbean culture.
Agreed, however theyâre not changing the characters skin...just using a black actressâ voice. Which is much better than decades in the movie industry of *other races (usually white)* playing the roles of other ethnicities and even black/mixed people. Which of course is absurd.
I guess, I was misinformed. I thought it the actor would only be voicing the character, I didnât realise there would be a change of colour....yh, sorry Iâm with everyone else that just seems wrong. Youâre changing history. Yes not everything in history should be kept the same, but Iâm sorry changing the colour of a person, individual or character is not it. What does need changing is peopleâs attitude to global warming! If anything...the planet is dying...slowly.
Lol just realised you mentioned it live action. No...I donât feel comfortable with that. That being said, I then think from now on if they do decide to keep the character âwhiteâ then with all other movies they should do the same. I get where people of colour are coming from because not everyone playing the role of a coloured person in the past has been of colour. However, letâs not fight fire with fire.
