Maybe the link would enlighten me, I can’t watch it right now, but I have to disagree with your second paragraph. Many idols work towards writing their own music, helping create the dances, and even producing songs with the company they’re with. I see many western artists getting a majority of their songs written for them, their routines choreographed for them, etc. Many west singers often have different names under entire albums because they contribute nothing to the actual songs. I’ll use the group BTS as an example since I follow them the most, please keep in mind it could be 100% different for some other groups. BTS has many of their members creating their own music purely because that’s what they want to do. The members, especially rappers, write their own songs or co-write their own songs when they create their own albums separate from the group, or they co-write (and write) songs on their group albums as well. A couple members, specially Hoseok/J-Hope, are very talented in dance and create their own sections of choreography, or help other members learn, etc. I don’t think making the West high and mighty compared to Korean groups is correct at all. The West seems to just have ghost writers bringing them up in the world.
Thats because this wasn’t a thread to discuss the semantics of it, it was a thread for us to talk about our favorite groups lol
Teacher: What's your favourite fruit? People: *starts answering* Kefo: I don't like fruits cause so and so. People: *ignores Kefo* idk man, he was still on the topic of kpop.
I mean... I said “ What are everyone’s favorite groups. “ Not “ Please attempt to educate us all on why you don’t like Kpop “
Pop music is all terrible, but i especially hate kpop just because of the insane fans and the weird shìt ppl do in the name of it. bts and exo stans are the worst of the worst and need to be confined to a mental institution
Do your conversations go.. You: So what's your favourite fruit? Them: I don't like fruit. You: Oh. Or does it go more towards.. You: So what's your favourite fruit? Them: Oh, I don't like fruits because [....] You: [discussion continues.] Then again, this thread is mostly like the first situation rip.
????? https://youtu.be/J8LxORztUWY It's an inhumane industry more than a genre or artform. It doesn't break any musical or cultural ground. It's just like an unnerving, exploitative commercial conglomerate with the cheesiest smile yet this millenium. The differences between K-pop groups are so small that they look like clones of eachother to anyone who isn't a fan themselves. Somehow even more generic and bland than western pop music. The colour, high energy, pleasant faces, and appeal to cuteness almost compensate for the lack of substance, but they still fall short. I don't see anything special in K-pop idols. They're not like singers in the West who tend to develop and create their own music. Rather, they're like a choir. Why do we call them idols when they're powerless, bring nothing to the table except conducting the will of their producers. The real "idols" are behind the scenes and the choir perform for them. idk how anyone could like it after applying a critical perspective. It's vapid af. @Warmth I had a whole response written but then app crashed so I'll wait
BTS of course, Got7 and Blackpink are my main bands to be honest and then I just listen to random songs from other groups
Congrats on contributing to a horrible industry that abuses their idols (incl. sexual abuse!) and often doesn't even pay them. Handlers often pocket 90% of the profit. :•) But they make good music so idols human rights don't really matter huh ? And bringing the issues up is just being a hater
That's actually part of what annoys me. The fans always feel so bad for the idols and act like korea is some horrible place that doesn't take care of their celebrities cuz they have to go on extreme diets but then they all forget about beyoncé who goes on diets where she only drinks lemonade and american models who eat cotton balls to avoid calories.
ngl i just don't like kpop fans cause they keep shoving their interests to my face. pls no matter how many songs of kpop you make me listen to, im not gonna appreciate it like you do k
I never said anything about haters ? whet. And I never said that stuff like capitalism, exploitation of human rights, toxic fan culture, companies taking advantage of fans and young idols (with their Faustian bargains), and the many, many horrible stuff that happens (kept in the dark too) in showbiz don’t matter. Seems like I was insinuating that, but I wasn’t just. Just saying, I’m still gonna listen.
It depends on the company tbh, but yeah that stuff does happen. A lot of the "not paying" is usually because it goes towards their debt (from the lessons, boarding fees, meals, etc while they're in training). Once the debt is paid off they start making their profit which is all in their contracts when they sign. As long as they're with a reputable company anyway.
